Agreed, a really nice selection of bikes you have there!

Good to see you got the new fork sorted out and fitted on the Carrera - It looks nice and tidy!

cheers HovR - the forks are about to be tested - had to chop them down slightly though
The Giant I think is slightly too small and too heavy for a proper roadie
The Merckx is just heaven - has a slight squeak which is getting lesser as time goes on - frame will probably fall apart when the squeak stops!!!
The hybrid is a spesh crosstrail expert - cannot put mudguards on it so leaving it alone at the minute
Wife thinks we need a bigger garage for all my little egos!

My commuter is also a slick tyred, single chain ringed, mudguard, top boxed and racked Carrera MTB. Heavy, but all day comfy and all weather sure-footed and disc braked. I love it. Mines a bitsa, with Hope 4 pots and Mavic rims with Hope hubs.

The only thing I'd change is the tyres. I went for 1.9 Cityjets to cope with the dire country roads round here, but I think I under estimated how touch the rims are so next time ill take the faster rolling 1.5s.

Aside from that, as an all year round, all weather, all surface commuter I still can't think of a more appropriate ride than a converted MTB, though we're my commuter more urban and the roads better I'd probably go down the Sportive road bike route.

The Carrera looks tidy & well suited as a winter commuter. I must fettle my hybrid a bit more, sort out the brakes & put the mudguards back on.

I picked up the same Spesh recently... it has full guards on the back and a chopped off short guard on the front (useless to be honest) Not sure why the front is shortened but I would like to replace it if possible

I've taken off the riser bar and changed the stem to lower, flatten and extend the reach. Heavy bike but great for the winter commute and occasional weekend tracks with the kids.
