We must be the laughing stock of most of the World. In most countries if a car kills a pedestrian it's their own fault for getting in the way of the car.

A guy I know trained as a bus driver; one day I asked him what kind of things they were teaching him. "Well, today we did driving through puddles" he replied. Made me laugh.

Mrs Kelly said she estimated that she would have to spend a further £200 to cover the cost of a fourth test.

Better get used to it love, as when you do eventually pass you'll notice that your car swallows up huge amounts of cash on a regular basis.

Whether or not it's an offence, it's definitely careless and disrespectful to soak a pedestrian.

She could have slowed down - I do that when I have no choice but to go through a puddle and there are peds around in my car.

Exactly - what irks me about this is the unthinking assumption that the car is more important than everything else (per usual in this country). Slow down? Wait 'til it's safe to go around the puddle? Heavens, surely not, I'm in a car!

It was totally correct to fail her for all the reasons already mentioned. I think the examiner likened it to having a crash in that if she had a crash on test there were proceedures that she should go through and the same should apply with the splashed pedestrian ie stopping and exchanging of details. It wouldn't have necessarily meant that she would have failed had she done that.

I did pull up an examiner for requesting that I carry out an illegal maneuver (sp) and I won and had my test fee refunded, and also the test fees of all the previous people failed by the same examiner at that test centre.

good!

it's driving without due care and attention i believe

Absolutely correct, it is.

I was taught NEVER drive through a puddle, not only are you likely to make a pedestrian wet, but puddle= hole=bu**ered tyre/wheelrim

Thick cow, good job they failed her. After all if/when she passes she'll be propelling 1.5 tons of metal at speed through our streets, and if she can't miss a puddle, or take reasonable avoiding action, then what's she going to be like out on the road on her own?

correct decision. anyway you don't fail your test on one serious fault, she must have had another one.

when i failed my first test and my instructor took me through my test paper after and he said the the examiner marked what he considered to be a minor fault as a serious fault, which took my serious fault count up to two, so i failed. he said that basically he thought the examiner was probably not confident in my driving because if he was he probably wouldn't have marked it up and let me off that one. But as he was not confident he needed two serious faults to fail me, so basically he gave me another one for free  But fair play to the examiner, because i wasn't confident in my driving either! and to be honest i was totally crap in the test, i had loads of minor faults, and i wasn't ready  and the examiner seemed a nice fair bloke to me... I had the same examiner the 2nd time round and passed with flying colours

reading between the lines, i doubt this woman was as good as she thought, she probably didn't even see the bloke at the bus stop who she splashed and the examiner probably knew she was driving round with her eyes closed. he certainly wouldn't have failed her on one thing, and how would she like it if she got soaked.

I'm not a driving examiner or an instructor, but I'm pretty sure that one major / serious fault = failure.

Just checked - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_4022540

You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.

I've been driving for 24 years and I don't think I've ever splashed a pedestrian. To do it on your driving test when you're concentrating extra hard is inexcusable

Stupid bint, she kind of sums up what I feel about a sizeable section of British society

Slightly off topic, but still along the same lines of stupidity, I was chatting to a colleague on the phone this morning about a job, when he told me he was on jury service all week ( I'll never fathom why the Govt. decided it was OK for serving Police Officers to serve on a jury) I mean, stands to reason, from personal experience knowing how hard we have to work to get the CPS to take a job to court, especially Crown Court, if your in the dock, you're probably guilty, after all a bunch of lawyers have looked a the available evidence and have advised a charge.

Anyway I digress, so colleague tells me he has a day off as the jury has been sworn in, but on the previous day, one of the prospective jurors an apparently attractive blonde was overheard discussing her feelings about the case they were about to go into when she said she was going to go with the most attractive lawyers view, regardless of whether he was the prosecution or defence, as she really wasn't that worried as long as the lawyer was fit!

FFS, no wonder the country is in the stae it is.
