I've given up trying.

Have you tried looking at running gear? It's a looser fit so you should be able to get some things to fit. I've got ronhill mens t-shirts which come in a quick drying technical fabric.

But the same applies to (eg) size 8/10/12 etc... a size 8 is not a size 8.

In my case in 'normal' shops I'm normally too small ('petite' I suppose they call it - eg M&S is too big for me in the waist - they start at size 8 and that's too large). But, in something 'upmarket' I'm too big for a size 8 (they seem to design their clothes for 6 ft tall stick insects, they do). And in Jane Norman I'm exactly a size 8.

While I'm new to the cycling sizing world, it does seem that my thighs are too large for my waist, if you go by the fit of the clothes. In both Minx and Corinne Dennis so far the waist is fine in XS and 8, respectively, but the thigh fit is actually too small.

Also, if you're going to S/M/L, in response to Cathryn above, if you start 8 = S, that means 10 = M and therefore 12 = L...?

A friend and I are thinking of starting of a website aimed at female cyclists, theoretically it could include, news, reviews and features as well as blogs and a forum.

We'd be looking to attract as wide a spectrum as possible from beginners looking to get their first bike and equipment, women who use their Pashleys on the weekend and those of us in lycra who commute every day.

Please could you answer the following questions and give me your thoughts. Thanks so much for helping us out.

1. What do you rate most highly:
News
product reviews
features
peer support

2. Why do you cycle:
Commuting
Leisure
Shopping
For ALMOST everything

3. As a beginner who did you go to for help and advice? Cycle chat - read lots!

4. Do you feel that more women are cycling now than were last year? Not sure as only started this year. I hope so though!

5. Many brands have expanded their women's range, are you aware of this? No. I tend to buy from 'normal' shops.

Well women's clothing seems like a winning topic!

I've just bought a Pearl Izumi jersey on sale and it's an XL. I'm only a size 14! Ridiculous.

Yes, although I'm not a rabid buyer of clothing, it would be good to know offhand what the various companies' sizes mean. I expect if you look hard enough online they have size charts, but a central way to compre sounds useful.

BTW, for those of you in London, have you seen this about the Cyclodelic Photo Treasure Hunt? I like the idea of 'most dashing hat' prize....
