Here for rides.
What a load of parp England v Germany was.

When the women were tackled they didn't roll around like victims of a sniper. They got up and played on. They didn't feign injury. The women don't seem to dive or mysteriously lose their balance when not touched by amother player. They don't try to get the oppo sent off. They don't engage in wrestling matches whilst waiting for a set-piece kick.

Goodness knows what they are thinking by just accepting the referees decisions and getting on with game instead of hassling the officials for the whole match.

That's not the way to play football. It will never catch on. No spectacle.

I seem to remember a time, long ago when the mens game was like that, players actually used to tell the referee that the ball had or hadn't crossed the line for a goal. Thank god that died out.

It's great to see the ladies game catching on. From what I've seen its just as entertaining as the men's game, and like you say, a lot less prima Dona ish. Better legs too.

Brings to mind Flanders & Swan's song of patriotic prejudice:

And all the world over each nation's the same
They've simply no notion of playing the game
They argue with umpires
They cheer when they've won
And they practise beforehand, which ruins the fun

Although to be fair, the 1970s Leeds team never signed up for that approach.

I used to play middle aged men's 5-a-side on an open air pitch next to a women's team, training. To say they put our football skills to shame is rather an understatement. They were fantastically athletic (hence my excuse for being so rubbish, distraction) and had terrific ball skills (Missus)
I agree. My daughter plays in a serious girls' team and at times it's carnage out there.
It's a myth that the women's game is in some way morally superior to the men's IME, if you watch enough of it you'll see plenty of the behaviour also on show in the men's game. An international friendly doesn't paint an accurate picture of women's football at all.

When the stakes are high enough, the women's game is just as dirty as the men's.

Not seen much women's footy, but I did go to an international last weekend.

Quite a lot to play for - a place at the World Cup next year - but from what I saw the OP's pretty accurate.

It was a cracking night out by the way. Bike park right next to the stadium, tickets for 6 squids and the biggest crowd for a women's match ever in NL - 13000.

The match was drawn so still all to play for in the return leg on Thursday in Verona.

I was at Brasil v USA at the last World Cup. One of Brasil's defenders pretended to be injured for a good two minutes in injury time. I was pleased when they lost the penalty shoot out (England got knocked out on penalties too by the way, surprising nobody).

I remember one of the Asian teams (South Korea?) having players sent home for doping violations too.

It's just as bad at the top level, but you don't hear about it so often, though that's a different issue.
