Just cycled back from Mums and decided to go for a quick loop around the duel carriageway around Woking town centre. It's a 40, but some middle lane hogging women in an old Nissan Micra was dawdling along at a paltry 25-30MPH so I put a bit of effort in and shot past her and the Civic behind :biggrin:. It's not even slightly down hill. She didn't even catch up. Not particularly necessary manoeuvre, but it put a smile on my face - I resisted the urge to over inflate my ego and to go past cheering and congratulating myself.

I colapsed around the corner with a stitch though hahaha : D

There was a bus driver who must have wondered where the hell I was going as I saw him about 20 times as I kept going backwards and forwards on myself trying to find good down hills.

It's 3 lanes for a part...how about ring road..not that it's really a ring road...road around woking town centre...whatever, she was going slowly in the middle of the 3 lane section.

That's on my commute - up through the Park from the footie ground, shoot out, right and down under Vikkie Bridge ingnoring the vastly overpriced TT Cannondales in Evan's window, move right into the bus land outside Toys R Us, and time the lights to burst left, hammer past the Aldershot turn, gun the Peacock car-park lights to hammer a left a hard left past the Lighbox onto the Chobham Road and hope for luck at the mini roundabout.

Then puff like a git up the slope at the end...

 - I carried on straight past the turning to Horsell to the roundabout at the end, and back again. I came out at the Cap Gemini turning left, down and around...then back down to the footie ground to home.

I quite like going around there as you can treat it as a bit of a race track

I had some fun with a chav on a moped yesterday. Just into a ride and coming through Wythenshawe (not a great area) a kid on a moped comes alongside and starts with the "alright mate you gay or what?" type stuff.

I could see it was a 50cc chinese moped and as we were on a slight decline, I did a little "bye bye" motion and went for it. Pulled away from him without too much trouble, but was struggling as the road flattened. Fortunately, as I passed a bus up ahead the bus then started to pull out and he got stuck behind it, I turned off a bit later.

The old legs don't like sprinting over 30mph much, but I reckon even on a downhill it counts as a scalp!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Yes - but it's a real pain that you can't go left then right from the footie ground being one way, but have to go either though the park or right along to the Guildford road and up the hill, especially in traffic.

And if you go through the park and out the side gate to come out past the Sorting office to the back of the station, you are supposed in theory to go right round past the Police station and back to town, or get off and go under the station underpass, which is just stupid, putting you in the most dangerous traffic. Woking is, I have to say, a really poor town to cycle in.

But it's a great ride out on the Horsall Road to Chobham, then right, up over the M3 to Sunningdale - it's a blast of a ride back, being all slightly downhill/flat!

You go through the park do you? You could go out of the other exit, up that massive hill (what I thought as a kid) which would take you out by the Doctors surgery...top of Guildford road, then just cycle down past Blockbuster.

I know the one way would be a nice cut through, but I don't find going to the roundabout and up to be much extra work. Not had any problems on that hill, but I don't frequently use it in heavy traffic. The only time I work commuted that was was on a Sunday, when the roads are obviously chockerblock .

Woking isn't too bad a cycle town...we had the tour series.... Do you go up Westfield Avenue? If you do, do you come from Jacobs well way, or Kingfield? If Kingfield you pass the road where I live.

The steep hill route is the one I meant in the first post - coming out at the top of the Guildford Road hill via the side road the name of which I can't recall, not far along from the Police station.

The problem with that hill in traffic is that it's a right hander curve, and all the traffic drifts right over to the right of the lane, so you are in the oncoming traffic, and then there is a right hand turn where few bother to indicate, so good chance of being taken out.

I go up Westfield past footie and David LLoyd on left, to the end, then right, past the pub and playing fields, then left to Sutton Green and on through that way to Jacob's Well, then hang a left, past the Kiddie Farm (owner killed himself last week), over the A3 past Sainsburys and up and out toward the A25, which hilariously, given that it's a race track with a cart-track road surface, is a cycle route!

Apparently he took so much rat poison they still can't do an autopsy. The chemicals injured the paramedics and people I think too, which is pretty selfish. Still, £400,000 worth of debt or something he had.

If you were to carry on, miss the turning to the footie ground, I live down the road opposite The Guru Indian. I'd give you a wave if I went via Guildford. We miss each other by about 1/4 a mile . You've got a reasonable route though....down around Sutton green is nice. If you want to add a bit extra in on the way there, go left up Pile Hill (after the garage and houses on the left)...follow that road until a mini roundabout, right...then into westfield that way. For another addition, go around by the Church..though there are some pot holes and horrible speed bumps that the devil must have created!

orrr, leave work early, come to leatherhead and let me slip stream you all the way back :biggrin:
