pfft...you're not made of sugar, and won't melt in the rain....what I don't like is the wind......having to pedal downhill into a headwind is not my idea of fun

True.
Last December I did lots of cycling, all of it commuting. It was also much colder and I rarely cycled in temps much above freezing (commute was early hours of morning). I found that after a few miles that the lower temperature doesnt make a difference, just use more layers. It also encourages you to push harder just so you can warm up a bit quicker. But being wet.........I will wimp it and just take the motorcycle.

if the main riding you do is commuting and you have an alternative I would take the other option also. Commuting is never as much fun as a free ride

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I will admit on a weekend if its raining i do a double take but i have ridden in it all week on the commute, grease in wheel bearings lasted 2 weeks due to the weather !

There is no such thing; the water WILL find its way in eventually. Down your neck or wherever. That also applies to heavy duty goretex motorbike jackets. In 33 years of motorcycling I have yet to find a truly waterproof jacket. If manufacturers of motorcycle jackets cannot manage it when weight is not an issue, then I don't hold out much hope for cycling jackets.
Modern Goretex or Event jackets are pretty good, (probably others too). Yes there will always be ingress down the neck etc but they do enough to keep your core warm which is what matters.
Mudguards make a big difference too.

I'm not allergic to rain and showers don't put me off but when it's an incessant torrential downpour and usually mixed with a lot of wind, it is difficult to find anything enjoyable about it.
