One castrated ram's as good as the next one... only spelt whether without the first 'h' once in school ... the teacher suggested I looked it up in the dictionary. Funny how you don't forget simple things like that.

Please let's get rid of Gotten, its use drives me spare.
Good Anglo Saxon* traditional English word. I want to see it used more. Like 'Fall' it went to North America and survived while poncy Elizabethans (of the 1st variety) put romance and Greek origin words in their place.

Have I gotten my message across?

* possibly Middle English - open to correction on that.

i had a Portuguese friend, who couldn't understand silent letters, it was hilarious, listening to him trying the read the word "light" or "knife" it used to drive him round the bend, and me into hysterical fits of laughter

Public flogging for "for free". Whether spoken or written.

Free means 'for nothing'. Why do people want to keep saying 'for for nothing'?

In spoken English only - Same penalty for saying "haitch" instead of "aitch" for the letter H.

Reduces intelligibility, sounds awful, and just plain wrong. (Although considered acceptable in Australian English I believe).
