Not quite the 100mph the press reported as his target speed! As the current record is around 85mph, it was a bit ambitious, if he ever said it that is! The press are not exactly known for accurate reporting these days.

When they tested thrust SSC before the proper supersonic attempts, it was done at about 250mph on an airfield. Need to give the chap a chance to get the bike set up right

An interesting comment in the report was that Obree was not pedalling but operating push levers. I have often thought about this. Pedalling has a problem because there is only one point at which the leg delivers maximum torque, and that's when the pedal is at 90° to the power stroke. A push lever mechanism would surely resolve this?
