Worst buying decision ever

Bought a DVD recorder just before the digital switchover. It was still useable to play DVD's, but the recording bit? Nah.

You mean the analogue tuner no longer worked and presumably it didn't have a freeview tuner? If so that's the error not buying the recorder.
The recording part would work just fine as long you could pipe the source in via SCART or composite.

Bought a roof box and roof bars for my car several years ago and never got round to using them. Now up for sale at a significant loss as have no space to keep them.

I can't think of any real howlers.

In terms of (lack of) VFM it might be my Cube eMTB. It cost me £3k, 3 years ago and I've done about 300 miles on it! I just underestimated how much off road riding I'd do! It's a lovely bike but cost per mile has been way more than my car!
Weird thing is though I love it so much I can't regret it.

This is very little money in the scheme of things but the one I feel worst about was my son's bike. Apollo kid's single speed bike brand new from Halfords and stabilisers fitted, paid for a 2 year service plan (yeah I didn't know any better). Son rode it twice, once up and down the drive while I set the saddle height, then we took it to the local park. He was just enjoying himself and getting some confidence and then he fell off. He's not sat on it since then and is not interested at all. 😢 I should get rid, it's only taking up bike space in the garage.

As you know my wife has passed but I am 100% sure she was faithful all our lives.

It was a horrible experience, and the upheaval was dreadful. I don't doubt its in large part responsible for my anxiety.

On the plus side I ended up with a Mrs D version 2 who is a decade younger (than really wound up the ex when she found out! ) and I hope were as happy as you and Mrs Dave were.

I've not seen the ex Mrs D in over two decades, but the big money job disappeared when the company went bust and shes now married to a real Lard-O, so I think I came out with the better end of that particular deal.

Never having married (and never had kids), I do have to wonder how many things I've avoided over the years. 🤔

There was someone a while back whom I was kinda' interested in, but I thankfully came to realise quite early on that we were not really suitable and she was just looking for someone due to various reasons, despite the great 'what if?' (She was nice, but I now see that my instincts were right and I avoided).

I'm too much of an avoidant, so I rarely 'meet' anyone anyway.

Extending the lease on our flat (£17,000). Would have torched more without extending it of course, but christ.

A Skoda Fabia bought from a relative. I got it cheap enough and it was a one owner from new car with a FSH and low mileage. On paper it was the best car I ever had, in reality, it was the most unreliable piece of junk I ever seen and cost me a fortune. I had it at nine different garages and it was never sorted properly. Then failed the emissions test and cost more money trying to fix it to no avail. (I just wanted it tested so I could get a decent price to get shot of the thing).

One of the mechanics who was working at it told me the only way to fix a 1.2 VW is to sell it and buy something Japanese. He was right.

Not the worst, but I'll tell you what one of the best buys I have ever made is.

A 'Life adventure' travel towel I bought in Belfast 20 years ago this October.

I was thinking about it as it lives in my bag and was using it earlier after getting caught in the rain!

£700 for an 80’s Colnago Super(?). No lighter than the Dawes Imperial of the time, brakes don’t stop you any faster, Campag hubs do not roll as far as Weinmann (might be the tyres), and while it does get me round 15 miles a bit quicker, it gets me 40 miles no faster than the Galaxy (again, poss tyres).

My first flat. £14000 in 1986. Sold in 1990 for £12000. Must be the only person in the UK who bought property during that era who made a LOSS when selling. However, it was a BARRATT flat, and was in Port Glasgow. A lethal combination, but it seemed the right choice at the time. And yes, I've heard all the jokes regarding Barratt houses, particularly the one regarding STD's....
