As per the title really.
Wheeled the bike out from work to think "bugger" as I spotted the flat.
Took it back in, changed the tube and set off again.
Just 4 miles in to the journey, a dog appeared from nowhere down a country lane and took out my front wheel.
Walked back to work and got the works van to get home in.

Damage not too bad, bent handlebars, broken caliper mount, lost light and bottle holder but I'll take it into the shop tomorrow for a thorough check as it went down pretty hard

Bit of good news though, Kent police just called and despite the earlier advice that there was nothing they can do as it was a non motorised vehicle, they've now decided they can follow it up.

I'm fine, nothing that won't heal, graze on head, Black eye, bruised hip, sprained wrist and broken finger. But, the bike...

I hope you heal up quickly.

Does that mean the Police will find the dog owner and charge them?

I was very lucky, no major damage although I think I'll have to have a trip to A&E later as I can't straighten my wrist.
The bikes not too bad, buckled wheels, broken caliper, bent bars, missing light that I can see although I haven't fully investigated it yet. It's just so sickening it was on my brand new shiny frame!
As I say though, compared to a lot of prangs, mine was extremely minor and luckily I only had 4 miles to walk back to work where I could grab the van. Walking the remaining 13 miles home wouldn't have been much fun!

I'm hoping the police will chase up the dogs owners, there are only two large houses down that stretch of road where it happened so it shouldn't be difficult.
I don't want any compensation, just the bike being repaired would be a major result.
Bent bars cost me £80 last time..........upgrade needed

I like your thinking

sadly funds are too tight at the moment for any upgrades, if I end up paying for it myself it will be the cheapest set I can find on ebay!

Commiserations Panter.

Do get your wrist checked out. There's lots of moving parts that you can't afford to have damaged and left to self repair without medical intervention.

Ouch. GWS.

Many thanks both, just back from A&E, nothing broken, not even the finger which is now Black around the knuckle and completely immobile!

That's good news - but if the wrist's still giving you problems in a week, I'd go back to the GP. As Vernon says, it's a complex joint and damage isn't always easy to spot.

Just horrible when that happens. Damage to you and your bike sounds bad though.

It would be at least a little compensation if the owner could be found and would be willing to take some responsibility and help with the bike repair costs.

Good luck with it all, and rest up until you're feeling properly right.

Cheers,
Shaun

Been there also. Had my pride and joy Viking 531 with ornate lugs destroyed when a stray dog ran out under my front wheel.

The impact concertinaed all the frame and left me having physiotherapy for over 6 months with a torn rotator cuff.

Never did find the owner. Hope you have better luck regarding the owner.
