Worst week to be on a bike

Yesterday was one of my worst journeys in four years. Hail, sleet, torrential rain and all in howling almost zero degree wind. It's winter and to be honest it's not been too bad so one bad day is just that.

Yep that's the sort I mean, I made it home in time to avoid it!

You were lucky. I left early planning to avoid it and unfortunately met it as I crossed the ring road and had it the remaining ten odd miles. It was horrible.

-11 and frozen hydraulic fluid was worst I cycled in to work but the snow sorts the men from the boys!!!

-15 and frozen nothing (hah hah - mechanical cantis ) and 12" of snow !

PS didn't need the brakes - snow was thick so stopped sharpish as I was in the granny ring on the flat. Loved it !

Yeah I guess over all but I think we've been fairly lucky this year

This winter the wind/rain hasn't been quite so relentless as last winter. I'd be very happy for still, calm conditions though, even if they were sub zero

I only moved to Derbyshire last September having lived in the sunny(er), flat(ish) lands of the south coast most of my life and tbh cold, wet, rain, snow, or ice doesn't bother me. But the crosswinds on the tops of these hills are a nightmare!

Got long coat, will ride through anything except black ice. One day I'll get ice spikes. For now I just slide...

Big goggles and a snood that leaves nothing else exposed... but it's slow going. I have hidden in trees for hail before. It's as bad as torrential rain IMO but thankfully rare.

Every day of every week is a nice time to be on the bike. Just dress and ride according to conditions.
