I have read bits on that, but it's only partial preview. To be honest, the bits I read I was more or less already aware of, so haven't bought a full version.

What, you mean you haven't read it yet!!

Yes it is worth reading, even as an experienced cyclist there is stuff in there which is useful. It is to cycling (in parts) what Roadcraft is to driving...

Then again, how many drivers have read and understood Roadcraft...

From what I read on this shortened internet view, it's common sense.

On page 95 ( overtaking ), the author refers to "any other tell tale signs of imminent movement of the vehicle".
Why doesn't he just say "movement of the vehicle's steering roadwheel"?

Is it up to us to guess what 'other tell tale signs' are?

This 'tip' is also applicable when going down the outside of a stationary queue of traffic.
Keep an eye on the car's wheels, if they start to turn, STOP!

Is that in the full ( unseen ) version ?

A little bit of me dies when someone says "oh, that's just common sense..."

A beginner's take on what constitutes cycling common sense is going to be very different from that of an experienced club rider...!

Many cyclists I know and see on the road appear to believe it is common sense to ride less than 12" from the road edge...

Many non-cyclists think cycling on the roads is not common sense...

Common sense is not common at all...

I might actually buy my Dad a copy of that for Christmas. Not because he's a bad driver or anything, just we both agree that there should be some skill in driving....and I can pinch it off him ...the review "You will learn how to be a safe yet fast driver." sounded good

Yes, I thought Jimbo was an expert, has he never come across it before? I mean, it's reccommended on about a weekly basis on here...

Definitely worth a read, should be given away with every bike. Or studied at school.

Why doesn't he just say "movement of the vehicle's steering roadwheel"?

Probably because I can't tell what the heck you're talking about there - steering wheel or car front wheel? And plenty of people do need to be told that stuff, and reminded of it on a regular basis. You never stop learning out there, and anyone who thinks they don't need to learn any more is kidding themselves.

It looks like a ding-dong bell, and good and loud it will be too. Ah, but I expect a bell just isn't cool, eh?

Haha yeah I can imagine him tingling it furiously while all the drivers can't hear it in their soundproofed cars and listening to the stereo.

So do some cycle manufacturers... I really must post a copy of the user manual that came with my new Giant...

My neighbour is one of them. I was seen by his wife on top of the pergola cutting back the roses (I'm posh, me) and she called out to her husband "Dave! Have you seen the guy next door? He's up there!" (whilst pointing).

Dave replied, "What, Pete? Oh he likes danger. He cycles."

It might be there to warn pedestrians?
