Forgetting is one thing. A friend of mine said that he did a long ride the other day and didn't realise that he had left his pump at home until he got back. Asking for help in that situation is fair enough.
Being like the rider that I mentioned above and NEVER carrying spares or tools - that is a completely different thing!
I have donated tubes to stranded strangers in the past but if one told me that he was stranded because he couldn't be bothered to carry stuff I would have carried on and left him to his long walk or wait for a taxi/lift.

On an audax once I pulled over to help a rider, which I don't mind. I don't recall if I changed the tube but I definitely recall that she had no pump. Anyway it turned out that she was with a club and all her club mates had left her, which I thought was a bit mean.
We rode together for quite a while because she wasn't confident about navigating. I don't recall reaching the finish with her - I think I was too slow and she set off at her own pace, trusting to find other riders to follow.

Have helped out twice, but I always offer, it annoys me when riders just flash past ignoring me standing there. That's life though, we're all different, I tripped on a run a few weeks ago and still have a lump under my knee. Shortly after it happened I was leaning on a fence blood running down my leg, arm and hands scuffed as well. Young fella ran past and never stopped.

So she used you when help was needed but dumped you when she was inconvenienced….sounds like her Club was the right one for her.
Was every single member of the club she belonged to on the ride? In the club I belong to we have over 150 members, on a supportive there might have been only a few of our members doing a pretend race.
Completely different in the motorcycle community, I helped someone with a puncture earlier this year, they were miles from home and didn't have any breakdown cover. I carry a complete tubeless repair kit, anyway we got it fixed and managed to get enough air in to the tyre so he could reach a garage.
I didn't once judge him for not carrying a kit or for not having any breakdown cover (he'll probably buy both now!) just wanted to help.

Some tyres can be a right b*****d to get on and off. I use a steel motorcycle tyre lever and washing up liquid on some of mine. I find those plastic ones aren't man enough.

Our little group of friends help one another out. Some aren't mechanically mined and could get into a right mess so I try to help out where possible. I wouldn't want to do a puncture by the side of the road. It's bad enough at home.
I have 2 track pumps at home which have different ends to suit the different valves. I have several compact pumps which are almost useless. Double action! It hardly puts any air into the tyre. The other day it let more air out than in. There was insufficient valve protruding from the rim for the pump to connect. The track pump was fine when I fitted the tube but the compact pump would be useless on a ride.
What is wrong with stopping to help someone out. I stopped to help out a rider who was lost a few weeks ago. He was German touring this country on his bike. The route he wanted to take although marked out as a cycle track was closed and unsuitable for how he was laden. I said that I would lead him around the back lanes to a Lidl shop where he wanted to get to. Before I left him I told him a route through the back lanes to avoid traffic to his next destination.

I have a terrible track record for giving people misleading directions. I don't do it deliberately but I overestimate my directing powers. Then just as the directed party sets off it dawns on me "hang on, that's not right. It should be second left. First left is the bandit infested road leading to a sheer drop. Oh well ..."
