Would you pass a driving test?

I've been driving a variety of battered white vans for twenty five years. Two clutches in that time. I don't hold it on the clutch, just the footbrake. The clutch wear is no different than that which would occur after using the hand brake.

Quite. I do get the impression that at least some of those upthread are more concerned with causing extra cost and hastle for car drivers than improving safety.

Edit: I will add that if I were genuinely pursuaded there'd be a valuable safety benefit I would support such a measure

Car ownership and use is far too cheap financially when weighed against the damage to the planet, society and human life. Doubling the price of fuel will force people to do that which they're too lazy and selfish do do on their own motivation - increasing costs is the only viable means the an end.

So are you admitting that your support for this is purely to add costs and hastle to driving ?

And even if you do, surely it would be better to merely tax more, and spend the money in a more worthwhile way, on road safety or something else entirely?

These are noble aims. I have no interest in simply being vindictive towards car drivers, of which I am one.

Surely if retesting was introduced most would behave for the day then go back to being ignorant jumped up vindictive little asswipes the next.

My ex wife was an appalling driver, took her 7 or 8 goes to pass. Re-testing would have her off the road for years until she passed again.

For that reason alone I fully support fortnightly retesting.

I have no problem with poluter pays as a principle, I'd just rather the payment was spent on something worthwhile rather than being wasted for the sake ofnit

If a tester was watching my day-to-day driving I might fail on account the fact I'm one of those nobbers who doesn't always use my indicator. Apart from that I like to think my driving is good enough to get me through a test.

10 to 2 is not taught anymore. It's quarter to 3 due to airbags.

I probably would pass. Did theory test earlier this year and hazard perception too. 98% and 89% pass.
