Planning a nice long ride tomorrow (day off) but rear tyre not good, and I don't have any spares. I want you to say 'of course' but I think the answer will be 'don't be silly'. Opinions please

I would not use that tyre for a long ride. Even with a tyre boot it would be difficult to repair if/when it splits.

I would ride it to the bike shop, but not much further.

Incidentally I bought a car with tyre wear on one edge like that once - it was from Milton Keynes. Are there a lot of roundabouts near you?

Go on a good long ride, but only after taking in £1 a time on a guesser as to how many miles you will get before the inevitable blow-out. Take out the price of a new tyre from the proceeds, and offer the rest as the prize for the closest guess. Free tyre for you, nice prize for someone else. Simples.

No, I wouldn't ride on that tyre!

Which is particularly relevant because I discovered today that the rear tyre on my Basso also looks like that! (The tyre went flat not far from home so I thought I would try pumping it up land imping home on it, but the valve core suddenly blew out. Thank goodness that didn't happen on the 40 mph descent that I had just done!)

I have new tyres on order (Lithion 2s are currently going for only £11.99 at Planet X!) but I will pinch one off my Cannondale for tomorrow's ride. I'll put a new tyre on the 'Dale when my order arrives.)

That's gubbed.

Depending on where you are in this fine county, I could have you a tyre to use a couple hours before your LBS opens. Gosforth any use?
That's a really kind offer, @AndyRM thank you. I have LBS just 2 mins walk from home (and about 40 seconds cycling)... just have to delay my start till he's open, thank you anyway, a very kind offer indeed, and (if @Shaun sees this) one of the very things that makes this forum so magnificent!:thumbsup:
