I read Prof Kevin Warwick predict this in Computing magazine many years ago. He said one day a computer with an IQ of 300 would get one too many request for a Gillian Anderson download, and say that's it, I rebel.

These things have multiple redundancies. No plug brings it down. No, some team of idiots released a software upgrade that has slowly bought fb to it's knees. That would explain how long it took to go down, as the software upgrade propagated to new servers. There are going to be some serious spankings tomorrow.
