I know what you mean, but FB can have real human value.

A few weeks ago, I decided to post a life event on FB. Not the sort of thing I'd normally advise someone else to do, but there were a lot of people that needed know, and I was sick of telling them one at a time. Death by a thousand "oh, i'm so sorry". 9am the next morning 2 friends arrived at my door to check I wasn't dead, and as I was ok, take me to coffee. Couldn't have been more perfect, but I would never have reached out to them.

And last night a friend let people know her mother was in hospital with a suspected heart attack - on the other side of the world from me. I'm glad she shared, I could reach out on FB and give her a hug.

Not a huge fan of FB but it does have it's uses and it's good to hear of it used in the way you have mentioned in your post.
