Travelling home on Monday afternoon to see my Eldest in her Nativity... the roads are dry, the weather is fine (albeit a little windy) and the half day at work has put me in a nice mood (because it was only a half day )....

Imagine my surprise, when approaching some traffic calming measures at which I have priority, to find that Mr WVM has no intention of giving way to me as he is too busy using his phone to concentrate.

Here.

I do so hate muppets that just bully their way through, regardless of who has priority (he'd probably have done the same to a car as he's in a lorry).

PS - If anyone can work out the full reg of the vehicle I'd be happy to alter the YouTube vid to include it. Just can't figure out the last three letters (have tried many combinations on askmid website but they all come back as unknown/uninsured, or as belonging to other cars).

SB....

I think the Reg might be AF07 MXN.

Comes up on ASKMID as:

Vehicle Make/Model: FORD TRANSIT 350 LWB 115PS

which looks about right.

Ooooh, well caught. I hope you reported him to Veolia? Oh, I would definitely put Veolia in the title, something like "Veolia driver on phone fails to give way" and then when you report it you can suggest they search for that description on youtube. It's a lovely way of making companies realise how their employees' bad driving can reflect immediately on their public standing.

I bet if you changed the video title, and posted it on a few forums like this:

Veolia driver on phone fails to give way

Then it would get into the top couple of results on youtube for a Veolia search.

BM, you are naughty!

Not making any excuses for the idiot, but I think the fact that there is a wee cycle lane bit there doesn't help. Drivers might just assume, 'oh it's a bike, it'll use the lane' and so plow on through.

I'd suggest that that little cycle gap is dangerous and should be removed.

Big company, so it's worth a complain.

For the might-is-right barge through the pinch point, he's looking at a telling off. For using his mobile, he's possibly looking at the sack. No sympathy, mobile use deserves to be punished.

It's a pity that the footage doesn't pick this out well, unless a frame-by-frame of the original is better.

That's not naughty at all. I don't suggest this with the slightest mischievious intention, but instead to bring home the consequences of bad driving, and to help ensure that we stop it from happening again in future.

Cheers for that... seem to have tried all sorts but with no joy. I might even go back and rebuild the video including it 'in' the video too (on the intro).

Thought about a report to the company... will do this now I have a reg.

Edit - Can't see how that middle letter can be an 'X' though.... hmmmm.

MXN looks quite possible to me, but it's by no means certain. It also looks like his hand is up to his ear in the frame-by-frame passing sequence. Also not conclusive, sadly, although I would hope they would take account of you having witnessed it.

I'm sure Veolia could easily identify the driver knowing the location and time.

Lol - apparently they are, but as I'm in the centre of the road and taking a direct line through the junction it is plainly obvious to all but the most stupid (oh yeah, I see where my argument falls down now ) driver that I am going through the 'main' part.

Incidentally, in the evening there are nearly always vehicles parked right up to the 'cycle lane' bit thus rendering it impossible to use (coming from the other direction)... they also block most of the pavement too making it mightily dangerous to use the RH side of the road (seen from my p.o.v in the vid) to walk along.

Sharky did at the end of his video, that's why I commented on it.

They are supposed to be, but are utter sh*te. I thought I'd mention it before anyone else did on YouTube... you know how super intelligent some of them can be.:biggrin:

If the footage of the driver on the phone is more clear in the original footage (pre you-tube crunching) then this is definitely one for plod!

Are they actually marked? The ones around here are all marked, those just look like they were too lazy to build the calming thing to the kerb.

Complaint registered on Veolia's website:

---------

I would appreciate it if someone could track down and have a word with the individual who nearly ran me off the road on Monday afternoon (7th December, 2009) at about 1.15 - 1.20pm whilst I was heading up Chatsworth Road in Urmston (M32 9) and he was travelling in the opposite direction.

At the traffic calming measures it clearly informs drivers from 'his side' that priority must be given to oncoming traffic, and yet your man ignored this (and me in the centre of the road about to pass through the narrow part) and forced his way through without even slowing.

Coupled with this he appears to be using a mobile phone whilst driving, as can be seen in the video from my helmet camera available here:
View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c91e58MyakY

I am not 100% certain about the registration plate as I didn't get time to repeat it aloud for the tape as I was too busy trying to avoid a collision, but from the video it appears to be AF07 MXN.

This driver is a danger on the roads, who appears to think that the law doesn't apply to him, and done whilst driving one of your company's liveried vehicles gives you bad press too.

---------

Tried to keep it factual and civil, let's see if there's a response forthcoming.
