And who needs brakes either, all they do is slow you down.

Funnily enough, that's almost exactly what I said to one of the apprentices last Tuesday at Llandegla. His back brake was going soft with air on rough ground ( I suspect it needed a fluid top up). He did man-up and chase me down the hills enthusiastically in the end, right up to the point where I landed a new jump on the B-line badly and slid down the landing ramp quite roughly. A few scars to bear witness to my stupidity.....

Having done Snowdon on a 90's MTB and come down the Llanberis path (up Rangers) we must have been nuts. I still ride that bike daily as a commuter. We walked Snowdon a few years ago and I couldn't believe how steep the scree section is just after the tunnel under the railway is. I was sliding down it on foot. No wonder we couldn't stop on canti brakes and had to drop the bikes just to stop before going off the side.
