There's been some discussion in the media regarding the Commonwealth Game's declining popularity and relevancy. Here's my suggestion. Bring back Imperial measurements in track and field. For instance, bring back the 100 yard dash and the mile. It would give international athletes a chance to have a go at some different records in a competitive setting. Where do I go to collect my MBE?

The Olympics could use the same treatment. Male competitors only (women can compete if they have a male sponsor, but against the men), with the traditional events, competing naked, no drug tests and the winners get a jar of olive oil.

I see that BBC Alba are showing four and a half hours coverage every night from 17:30 to 22:00, available on iplayer too.

Otherwise it's the dreaded TNT again or some highlights on 5 at 22:30 every night.

The mile is in for 2026, replacing the 1500 metres, though that remains for the para-athletes.

As a gaelic speaker myself (albeit not a very good one, it wasn't used much in my part of scotland) I feel this is bit a token gesture - there are two main dialects and numerous local variations in Scotland alone, so whichever theyve chosen will be wrong for most people.

My version of Gaelic is Inner Hebridean and I'm pretty glad that Alba exists if only to keep it ticking over in my mind.

They use as generic a version as they can for most stuff, not much else they can do really and it's better than nothing.
