Ouch, that sounded nasty.

I'm surprised that no one has pointed out by now that wearing your helmet must have made you top heavy and caused you to topple over when you hit the hole.

Yes , I have a suspicion that you might be right. Mind you, what with his headphones and all, will he hear about it?

Maybe if we wrap the thread in hi-viz it will help him find it....

I went to the doctors, had to go to a walk in centre as my doctors didn't have any appointments till Wednesday and their computer system is down.

He gave me Flucloxacillin, one capsule to take four times a day. And Amoxillin, one capsule 3 times a day. These were for the gerbil bite. But he asked what a gerbil was! And searched it on the internet and showed me a photo, asking if that was a gerbil! He's never of heard of gerbils before!;) He checked my balance, and ears, and did a test where I have to follow the light with my eyes.

I was feeling a bit confused and nervous in the surgery, but he's not done anything about that. Maybe because I don't have any marks on my head, just on my eyelid. Anyway, he said to go to casualty if symptoms get any worse.

Hmm ... you aren't painted me a picture of confidence in his medical abilities!!! I'm not medically trained but I'm still slightly worried about you.... if your symptoms get any worse at al,l or you are still feeling confused tomorrow, I'd say go back again.. or to the local A&E early in the morning when they aren't busy.

Please go to A&E. You are showing definite signs of concussion or worse - subdural bleeding, which killed Liam Neeson's wife.

PLEASE GO TO A&E!

Thanks for putting my worries much clearer than me.

Go to casualty. At worst it's a few hours waiting for nothing, at best it could save your life, honestly just go.

A head injury is not nice, I know, I've fractured my skull coming off my bike. The effects can last longer than you might imagine as well, dizziness, blood pressure affected, feeling odd would be par for the course but there might, just might, be something else going on as well. Get it checked and be prepared for this to take a few weeks or longer to settle. Mine took about 18 months before I had no more odd symptoms.

In fact most "gerbils" are not actually Gerbils, but Jirds of the Meriones genus, not to be mistaken wuth Meriones 3596 which is an asteroid

Asteroids do NOT make good pets - however a helmet may (or may not) be of use in asteroid / cyclist momentum acticvated interface situations

Does anyone know if Flucloxacillin and Amoxillin can be taken together as I'm not sure the doctor knows what he's talking about (he used Wikipedia to see what a gerbil was, and Wiki is frowned upon in education)? Also isn't 1000mg of Flucloxacillin (250mg x 4 daily) a bit high (seems the maximum dose is usally half that), especially for a gerbil bite?

Also, in the surgery, I said I wasn't confused (don't know why I said that)! But having thought about it later, any decent doctor would have been able to tell from my actions that I was!

There are no marks (as far as I can tell) on my head, so maybe I don't need A & E?

Marks schmarks. Proves nothing in relation to the brain moving inside your head. You've obviously got concerns, it costs nowt to go and get seen and have all your qualms addressed. Take a list of questions with you.
