maybe put 2012 as Roman Numerals - MMXII
It will be harder for people to date the tattoo.

You need to see it coloured in, do you really want orange panniers?

Puddles

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
Careful the eagle does not end up too German looking if its meant to be representing America.

I am a nay, why not just have no picture and just the roman numerals done?

Drop the Eagle, as Puddles suggested it can look German.

How about a USA Flag not fully coloured (50% opaque type of thing) with a stylised bike in front of it fully coloured and the MMXII below it.

BOAB, I wouldn't want a tattoo... besides you won't be able to see it properly anyway, too many practical problems with it and if you live to regret doing it, like MissA_T...

But then, if you like it and you're getting really irritated by the negatives, go for it.

I know where my towel is
I thought this was going to be a pic of a bloody knee or something like that following an "incident".
Glad it is not, and I do quite like the design.

ok...one dumbass question I forgot to ask her....

the hair on my legs will grow back....erm...what then...keep shaving the tattoo ?? wont that fade it?? ....blimy....the joys of middle age
Shaving!! Are you serious? This is the 21st century you know. Waxing is the way to go and then the stubble is reduced and you only have to have it done once a month or so and the leg hair does start to go away after a few waxings, the hair gets much thinner.

Nice tattoo. A bit fussy for my taste. Can you get a pic of it coloured in and post it on here so we all get a better idea? It might be the proliferation of lines that makes it look a bit busy. Colour would probably give a much better idea of the finished item, so to speak.
Its your leg though (very nice leg it is too) so do what you want with it ^_^

I don't think it looks like a german eagle...a bald eagle is as American as it gets...and the stars and stripes when colored in will make it clear enough, even if the word American doesn't.

the eagle means more than just American though....I was swimming in lewis lake Yellowstone when I got buzzed by an eagle...
and to me it signifies how I felt 'carried' by the American people who were to a person 100% supportive, interested and friendly.

I don't want just any token bike design...Shinto is my friend, and on that ride he was my only friend, so he has to be in it.

I am a bit worried it may look to busy...but I am told all will be well when colored in.

I do want the words Trans America in there, after all that is what I did. The flag idea above is really cool, but not for me as tbh it could represent the uda at the Olympics or something...or just that I rode a bike in America...its not saying what I want it to say.
But it is less 'fussy' and that appeals.

Also I don't want the flag in there... I don't want it to look like im flying the flag in some kind of political statement...America could invade the world and then how popular am I going to be ?

the eagle is about the spirit of America, the flag is a nationalistic emblem.
