Yorkshire's in Europe?

It's official. Read here. It's more popular than Rome Paris or Berlin.

The GF and I have just come back from Paris. We had a delightful 5 days there. I somehow don't think we could have crammed in as many spectacular attractions (walking) in the same time. I'm (as a Yorkshireman ) prepared to be proved wrong.

Given a choice of the listed cities and Yorkshire, my order of preference for spending five days sightseeing, the most preferred being at the top would be:

Berlin
Rome
Paris
Yorkshire

In fact it's unreasonable to pit a huge county, I'm assuming that all of the Ridings are included, against a city. It's akin to comparing a grape with a grapefruit - it's not a like for like comparision. In fact without motorised transport you'd be pretty scuppered if you wanted to pack as many cultural sites/sights in, in five days in Yorkshire as you could in any of the cities. There is a notable exception - Belgrade. I spent four days there this month trying to like the place and for a capitol city it was pi55 poor for having cultural sites that were closed during the tourist season and for the immediate future. Belgrade Fortress and The Tesla Museum rescued Belgrade from 'null points'.

Yorkshire's a pretty fine county but there are under-marketed competitors to the north and west that are just as alluring.

As a Yorkshire-born person, I've often wondered why people harp on about the county so much. Pride's one thing, and fine in my book, but the constant need to big up the place seems to indicate that there's a deep need to do a PR job. What's beautiful in Yorkshire wasn't put there by Yorkshire folk. What's rubbish was, if you exclude the weather.

Same's true for Lancastribods, before you start crowing.
