What a great turnout for the tour. I was loving how much effort the people of Yorkshire put into this. I decided to watch at home even though I am only 7ish miles from the finish.

This made me chuckle

Seeing the SUFC reminds me that Sheffield is recognised, by FIFA, as the birthplace of the modern game of football.

Standing in a field in Essex today, with the publicity caravan pouring by chucking our freebies all over the place, what do you reckon landed at my feet?

Yep, a packet of Yorkshire Tea, (or The de Yorkshire, with an accent). Yippee.........Just what I always wanted.

You can send it to me if you like.
I managed to catch a packet of Haribos. I don't like Haribos so I gave them to a kid of about 10 standing near me. Then a packet of tea hit me on the shoulder and as I bent down to pick it up the same kid pinched it from under my nose.
Little git. He's 10 - bet he doesn't even drink tea!

all we got from the caravan was two sheffield hallam university rubber bracelets. as i went to the proper university of sheffield, they were neither use nor ornament (no tdf branding at all)...

I went up by train on Friday evening (partner drove up Thursday with camping gear) and got back late last night. What a great time we had. We stayed in Addingham, The tour went through on both days, so saw it twice. I was amazed at how many people turned out on bikes to find a spot on the side of the road and watch. A real carnival and great atmosphere, everyone had gone to so much effort.

We camped on a local golf course, the club house had been turned over to campers and visitors, and we had a total sports fest weekend, footie, cycling, tennis. we were able to watch all of it on their two big TVs. (when we came back in from watching it whizz past):bicycle:

Ate lots of food, drank lots of beer, and was made to feel really welcome. When it came to Kent in 2007 I don't remember it making such an enormous impact as it did on Yorkshire this weekend. Maybe because the passion for cycling has grown so much over the last few years, or maybe I didn't notice then as I wasn't cycling mad then:hyper:

Anyway, we 'ad a reet good time, thanks Yorkshire ^_^

My intention was to watch on Ripponden Bank. After riding up at around 9.30, it was already getting mad busy so I cycled on for a bit and got a decent spot further on towards Greetland.

Highlight of the day was getting waved straight onto the course by a marshal as I came into Ripponden and getting cheered on by the crowd as I cycled up Ripponden Bank. It took me 6m30s to ride up it. Timed the pros on the highlights and it only took them about 3.5 mins. There go my hopes of becoming a pro.
