After sixteen years working shifts I have decided to accept a day position within the organisation. My new job title is ODMS / QC coordinator. As you can imagine when my family and friends ask me what my new job is and I tell them they give me with a confused look and ask what exactly does it mean? The QC part is more or less self explanatory but the ODMS role takes some explaining.

Does anyone else have a job title that means nothing to the general public?

When I was a kid I got so fed up with my parents' friends asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up that I started telling them I was going to be a nuclear physicist. That would shut them up.

I'm going to take a guess that Mark's job is one of those that are referred to by the phrase "H&S ****s" (expletive deleted). Ensuring that safety procedures and operating protocols are followed, it probably involves some sort of training and education of the guys at the coal face but also some level of kicking butts too.

I found out today that I've got a new permanent job (my first since 2008) as Head of Finance. I think that most people should be able to pick up some idea of what the role will entail.

I always wondered what they do at E THOMAS (PANT JOINERY) LTD; I'd love to spend all day every day joining pants!

(I know what it's all about now, but didn't back in the mid-90s when I first saw the name)
