Any further feedback on this? It'd be really interesting to hear how the police enquiries panned out.

He overtook on solid whites, absolutely no leg to stand on. I was about to say "would he have done the same if it had been a young child on a bike or an elderly person in an invalid scooter" but I think yes, he doubtless would have.
Overabundance of testosterone and a scary lack of road knowledge and patience, not hard to see why so many accidents happen is it.
Gaz, remember the defensive tactic next time, and this is from a bloke of 6ft 5in tall and 15.5. stone, get off your bike sharpish and get it up it's back wheel so you can hold it between you and Mr Egg-Bound, that way there's a bit of defensive depth for your to play with.

I've had nothing back from the police so far. will be contacting the local police office tomorrow to see if they care. if not i will try my local police who seem to care more, and then if not i will be writing some stiff letters for no one caring.

1. You never, ever overtake where there are double white lines.
2. You never, ever overtake on a blind summit.

These two things alone make it hard to understand why you are trying to excuse this guy's behaviour, even before we get to the aggression and threats.

1. Is wrong. You can overtake legally and safely where are double white lines as long as you don't cross them.

You can cross them too, in certain situations (eg, parked car...under 10mph cyclist, etc).

ok, but in this case the road was not wide enough.

to overtake anything on that bit of road is not possible without crossing the line

thus can't over take.

That's not my point - you have to appear to show some understanding for fellow road users.
The driver could have easily attempted an overtake earlier & even if it had started as a close overtake gaz had space on the nearside to make it comfortable & when a clear danger point came a stronger more assertive & defensive position was take to further discourage a dangerous manoeuvre (as executed by this person, question what would have happened if that red car had been 3s further up the road?). In short he was showing poor judgment, a complete non-understanding of risks for other road users & driving dangerously. So why does this apply to gaz who in all honesty is just trying to keep a reasonable road space around him, & not to the guy in the car who is attempting a high risk manoeuvre in close proximity to a vulnerable road user?

Re: double white lines.

Highway Code Rule 129

"Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less."

I went over that bridge again yesterday. The kerb side is in poor condition and there is a 'lump' which would probably result in coming off (on a road bike). The same is true for the opposite side of the road BTW. I stayed in full primary all the way - until past the traffic lights.

Even in a car you can see it's too narrow for a safe overtake. Most motorists realise this and wait until it's safe.

Man, that is one highly strung numpty.
He shouldn't be allowed to drive anything with an attitude likt that.
If plod do nothing I'd be writing letters to my MP, local safety partnership, police complaints and probably the media. It might not do anything, but might be worth a try if the Feds do nothing.

I've got that lined up, i'm giving the police plenty of chances to do something about it before i take it to MP's etc...

Just seen this Gaz

I have to admire your coolness.

Wasn't there a huge dog in the back as well?

I can't believe he just stopped in the middle of the road like that. Got to be one for PC Plod. Not just the overtake (illegal), stopping on a blind downhill bit of road and calling you a **** - unbelievable
