Wow! Many years ago I walked the West Coast Trail along the Atlantic coast of Vancouver Island, every night we camped on the beach and burned fires of cedarwood, which was lying around all over the beach as it tends to break up into chunks. The forest inland is massive with trees hundreds of feet high, it's a proper rain forest and the beaches are littered with massive tree trunks.

That's really nice! You can bet that if it was washed up on a beach near me (in Portsmouth, let's say), the local council would immediately (a) erect an ugly barrier round it and then (b) cut it up and take it away, all the in name of what Steven Fry calls "F***ing health and f***ing safety".
