Stone Roses Empress Ballroom in Blackpool 89....nothing comes close.

Venues like the Marquee, the Astoria, and a few places in Camden were good places to see big artists in comfort. 100 Club of course as well. I saw Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Mötley Crue and many others in small venues, so much better. OK, Marquee got a bit squishy but better than a Wembley Arena or stadium.

Chatting to my Dad recently he surprised me when he said hed seen the Rolling Stones.

"When was that?", I asked, thinking fairly recently.


"1963 on Eel Pie Island."

Mr M Jackson at Roundhay Park,got i free with a security lady,Neil Diamond Leeds Arena the incarnation of The Four Tops,The Temptations and Miss D Ross her show was very good,Mr Diamond was the best of all.Rubbish one Boe and Ball it was dire.

The Happy Mondays at the Hacienda around 87 or 88 was mindblowing.

I'd seen them twice before that year , Leicester Poly and Finsbury Park, where the sounds a lot like other indy bands but by the time I saw them at the Hacienda they'd met Oakenfold etc and become part of that Manchester dance scene.

Abba in Stafford round about 1977 (unsure of year but before I got married in 78 and after they won Eurovision in 74) and The Who in about 75, also in Stafford. Both brilliant and surprisingly affordable in those days.

I'll list 2:

Tangerine Dream​

back in the 70's in Bristol (then Colston Hall). Weird with dull grey stage lighting that remained dull grey the entire concert before, during and after. Just a couple of banks of Moog synthesisers setup on stage. Musicians walked on, sat down played for a couple of hours, got up walked off for a break, walked back on and played through until quite late then walked off. No clapping and enough smoke from illegal "cigarettes" that you didn't need your own (and wouldn't want to drive home afterwards). Brilliant. Very different but excellent.

at Albert Hall (London). Fairly small but hilarious and brilliant. Really showed his talent and humour with a good amount of audience interaction/responses.

I saw Neil at the Guildhall in Leicester................Absolutely brilliant.

Most memorable concert I've been to, was a "Take That" concert at Wembley in about 1993. I took my 12 yr old daughter and six of her friends, in our big est car, through London to Wembley.

They really enjoyed it, while I sat in the car, in the car park for the duration. Best time I've ever had, piece and quiet for a couple of hours.

Edit: thinking about it, the girls were in their teems and very independent, so must have been a few years later
