Probably not Wales as I've actually got a cottage booked in Tenby in Oct (I was reading your Welsh trip report earlier).

I like the lake district for off season as it is quieter, last go around in Oct I was the only person on the site! That was a site in Seahouses I think. I had a trip planned in peak district but the site I wanted closes for tents at end of sept and is booked up now.

Enjoy Tenby. Do seek out Harbwr Brewery on Sergeants Lane and the 'ruin' style bar. The 'bar' is on the street with lots of chairs, bottle shop and cafe opposite, but if you walk through the back, they have little courtyards and undercover parts to sit

Whoo, first camping trip booked. Just 3 weeks away. I need a break.

Off to Shell Island for the opening weekend - hoping to bag a spot down near the sea, Although that depends upon wind and rain forecasts. We'll most likely be in the van with the awning as only doing two nights. I have ordered some screw in tent pegs for the awning - yes it get's that windy.

We've also got 3 nights booked at a camper site in Llangollen for July as we're going to a couple of concerts on consecutive nights.

Coincidetally I booked mine at the weekend, an Adults Only site in the Peak District (Crowdecote) that we tried to get into last year but was consistently busy. Its right next to the Peak Forest trails so looking forward to the upto 1 in 7 inclines that feature on the route!

Shopping list for this year:
  • A new hotplate - the one I tried last year failed to work with any of my pans
  • Some electric cables for the hook up to save borrowing the sites
  • Maybe a few lights

I bought a new tarp to clip to the front of our tent to create a better sheltered area. The other tarp I have is massive and a diamond shape but it's better suited for a group shelter. The new tarp is a slightly different shade of beige though.

We usually do one last trip to Shell Island - it's usually a bit wild at this time of year, but our "cat sitter" is on holiday (daughter). TBH, if you watch the forecast, you can still get a great trip away, although a little nippy at night. Less bookings give you that flexibility to go with the weather.

Our only tent holiday on Shell island was, sadly, one to forget. Kids were little, youngest still in nappies and the rain was none stop. Pity as even then I could see it's a lovely place.

I'm taking a slow cooker this year, on the hunt for a small one - charity shops normally have them in fairly often.

We've got one somewhere. I went looking for the small one last year and it wasn't in the garage with the rest of the camping gear. Turned out it was in the kitchen on the shelves with the bigger slow cooker. Doh.

I have thought about hiring one of the cottages for just me.....for a week. Problem being that some days I rely on my strollater for walking and Shell island is not known for it nice smooth paths

It's also hilly, and the cottages are a little way from the complex. There is tarmac to the cottages, but MrsF did manage to stumble off the 'road', down a ditch and break her ankle last year. Wasn't a great year for breakages in this family.
