Bikes and birds, that's me sorted. So obviously my favourite bird is.....?
Two points to the first correct answer.
Such an unfortunate Latin name for the thrush family.

Heron.
Or maybe a GIANT boobie
Heron or her on a bike?

I don't know much Latin but turdus is a thrush, and philomelos has to be song thrush. Mind you, with my knowledge of the language it might as well the the honey-loving thrush. Which, if it existed, would clearly also be a delightful bird. (Is there nothing I wouldn't do for 2 points....?)

Personally I love the little robins, where do they go in summer??
Was feeding Mr Robin mealworms earlier who in turn flew into tree and fed them to his wane

I've a soft spot for the wren

I forgot about Melvyn, a very young tawny owl that I met on the island of Thassos, Greece two years ago. He sat on a branch and let me come within about three feet. His mother ejected half-digested mice all over the garden but her son was fun.

EDIT: Apparantly, tawny owls fly completely silently and can get quite upset if they feel that their young are threatened. There have been cases of mothers sinking their talons into peoples' eyeballs and blinding them.

I didn't know that when I photographed Melvyn.

Oops. Missed @Turdus philomelos user name completely. I had the Raleigh head tube badge heron in my head.

The humble Oystercatcher - When out with the dog in the winter months, and down by the river, it is always heartening to hear their harassed sounding 'PEEPEEPEEPEEPEEPEEPEEPEEP!!' calls out there in the darkness on the mud flats, as it tells me that A. We are not alone, and B. We haven't yet completely destroyed the world.

And yes, they do look strange with that beak and those staring eyes, I get it:
