a long walk is usually on a cold winters night after a few jars when you missed the last train/bus & cant get a cab. I walked home about 6 miles from the station (i know its that distance as i used to cycle there!!)im sure some of you on here can beat that easily,Im not talking sponsored walks here, only walks home after a night out.

probably about 3-4 miles for me but it certainly made me realise just how far you can go on a bike in such a short time compared to walking.

bikes are brilliant for that!

I once tried to walk back from the Polytechnic campus in Walsall to Wolverhampton (about 12 miles) after a night in the Students' Union bar there. Made it about half way before getting hopelessly lost and finding a taxi.

Not very long in distance, but it once took me three hours to get from Upper Street, Islington to Regina Road, Finsbury Park.

The walk home involved:
Trying to get a lift in a police car
Thinking we'd discovered a new tube station (it was a Nissan dealer - the sign looks similar when you're seeing double, honest)
Swinging around lamp-posts and then removing most of the skin from my forearm doing the same around a tree
Singing
Writing a house-mate's phone number on the snow on windscreens of most parked cars between Islington and Finsbury Park
Waiting for my friend while she had a wee in a mews in full view of a CCTV camera
Going into the 24 hour bagel shop and proclaiming "honest, we're not drunk" and then taking about 10 minutes to locate a £1 coin I dropped on the floor.

It was a class night out
The hangover was not so great though

edit - it's about 3 miles

I used to walk home from the West End to West Dulwich, which is about six miles, as a matter of course when I was a kid - the buses used to pack up at 11. Now the sproglet calls up at three in the morning and tells us she's 'in a cab, and can we come out with the money?'

Kings Cross to Stratford via the canal in the late 80,s I'd been up narth to watch a footie match and got back very late with very little money.

Birmingham to Wolverhampton along with canal whilst hammered.
I believe I stopped in Ettingshall for a quick kip

When I think back, I feel so lucky to have lived to tell the tale.

About 12 miles, and quite frequently, from concerts in Manchester to home. We used to try and walk along the white line in the middle of the road but never made it all the way. Oh, the fun we had.

Strathaven to Blantyre 9 miles

Went to a party at a farm and the police raided it as 100's of people turned up. 10 of us had to walk in the pitch dark down country lanes one of the boys was so pished he kept falling down the ditch at the side of the road. Every 20 mins all you heard was "oh f*ck" and he was down a ditch ;)

You should have seen the colour of him when we got home
