I’m happy with the Brompton but would add dynamo lighting front and rear, fenders made of a better material, maybe stainless, and posher paint.

maybe with a few coach lines. Like an old Raleigh.

edit : and a piece of luggage for the front that doesn’t look like a homeless person’s bag and cost the friggin moon. There really is no excuse for what’s out there

I would say that I would specify hub gears and no derailleur for a folder

mine has derailleur and it is a pain if you want to cart it around

Me as well providing the weight was not too bad. I’m a big fan of rohloff but would be sceptical about using one on a folder because it’s quite a lump to carry about.

I'm with Drago on the ID9. It isn't quite perfect; it could do with 2cm more seatpost and a slightly smaller fold would be nice but not a deal breaker. It's a little annoying the steerer tube folds outside the frame on the ID9 whereas on the older V brake models it folded inside, which is both smaller and neater. I assume it's the wider forks for the disc brakes that made them do that.
One day I'd like to see if it's possible to swap round the steerer hinge to try it.

It would be good if it came with full mudguards or there were factory items supplied as an option. I got a cheapo set from Amazon. Rear fits great but coudn't get the front to fit at all. I got a refund but they didn't ask for the set sending back so I just fit the rear as it owed me nothing.

I'd keep the 9 speed derailleur. It's got an excellent range for a folder. I've never used hub gears, and don't really see the point. I get that it's a bit neater for a folder but there seem to be a lot of downsides

You must have legs like Daisy Duke if you need more!

I've 'only' got a 33" inside leg and need the seatpost set with the top of the minimum insertion mark showing for a comfortable riding position on my ID9

I started looking for one to look at due to the unstinting praise on here but couldn't find a new one anywhere. Halfrauds only seem to stock the 8 speed rim brake version ☹️

I don't know, my inside leg to the floor is about the same, but whatever, I seem to need it about a cm above max insertion distance to be comfortable. Maybe they did different versions?

Why don't all 3 of you whip the posts out and measure them so we know for sure if you are comparing like with like?

Measure from the highest part of the post down to the minimum insertion line, and from that line to the bottom of the post.

I reckon we will find that @Drago just prefers a lower saddle position?

My starting point is the good old-dashioned heel-on-pedal-straight-leg method. Any lower than that and my leg would be, er, bent.

Its difficult i have the mezzo d9, the fold is a bit rubbish, but the bike rides ok. Its quiet light and the 9 speed is good. The bromie. its a bit heavy but folds well. limit with the gears and brakes, the fold hinge is rubbish and the re triangle. the bike is not made for the heavy person. parts are expensive. rust is a big problem on the main frame. i tend to use alot of car underseal in the tubes to stop the rust bug. tires 16's are ok but could be wider to stop falling down drain covers. but for some reason its still my go to bike.

i think the lighter and more hard wearing would make the bike work well
