Big loop round the Chilterns, giving me my first (metric) century on the fixie. 104km final distance. Down through Beaconsfield to Taplow, alongside the Thames to Marlow. Up through Wycombe to Princes Risborough, then Aylesbury, Wendover and home. Pretty stiff headwind for most of the trip, but brilliant sunshine and very warm, even with the wind.

14k round trip to the allotment, carrying 16 kg of produce on the return leg

It was quite hard work into the wind on the way out, but flying on the way home, despite the load

Now waiting for a massive courgette & carrot cake to cool down before icing it

 Excellent.

Had courgette cake once and it was delicious, have you got a recipe for yours please?

I did 12 miles with out moving! Thanks to my new Tacx training rollers!! £50 out of the local freeads, used once, guy came off decided he didn't want them!

I went out for a quick 32miles this evening. Nearly sh@t my self on Burnshot Road however, a car past me and gave me plenty of room as it was able to cross the white line. A second car went to go through but there was a car coming the other way and there was no room and they slammed on the brakes to a skid. Dozy effers this was a completely straight bit of the road, its not as if me or the opposing car came out of nowhere.

Here it goes, I've tested the recipe a few times now and found the following version was the best (my chief tester, Mr T, agrees), original measures in brackets where different. It's very easy & quick - apart from the cooling time!

Courgette & carrot cake

- preheat oven to 175C/Gas 4 and line or grease a deep cake tin
- sift
250g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/3 tsp salt (original recipe says 1 tsp )
into a large bowl
- stir in
200g caster sugar (ordinary sugar works fine too; original says 250g)
25g mixed chopped nuts (any will do - original says pine nuts)
25g sultanas
- grate
250g mixed courgette & carrots
2 bananas (recipe says mashed, grating is quicker)
- mix grated fruit & veg and
3 eggs
with the dry ingredients
- [the recipe says to add 150ml sunflower oil, I found that this is not
necessary at all, have reduced it right down to nothing, makes a
MUCH lighter cake, and you can eat more ]
- Put in prepared cake tin & bake for up to 1 hour (test with skewer)
- Leave to cool completely in the tin

(I've just put a double batch into a rectangular oven-width size tray, it bakes a bit faster, and you get many more slices out of it)

Icing:
- In a small pan, heat
40g butter +
2 tblsp water
- when melted, sift in
175g icing sugar
+ (optional) a few drops of vanilla essence
- stir until smooth
- leave to cool for a bit (stirring occasionally) if it's very runny, then
spread over the cake & leave to cool, it goes solid.

Enjoy!

I ended up doing 25 miles, was only meant to go 12 - 14-ish miles - what I call the countryside scenic route to Sainsburys but the weather was rather nice and I ended up detouring through Hollywood / Earlswood lakes before heading up to Sainsbury's for fresh burgers and crusty cobs yummy!!

TheKay is that earlswood in Surrey? We probably passed each other!

27 miles at a 16.2 avg this morning, including an eye watering blast from the m23 to purley cross spinning the top gear all the way. Worth trying if you live nearby - slight downhill for the first mile then nothing to stop the momentum. The coppers with the speed guns looked shocked!

47 miles this morning, from Portland to Bridport and back. Had to walk up the big hill after Abbostbury on the way there, and several on the way back as was knackered! Starting to feel like a proper cyclist now though, and the clipless pedals at last feel second nature. Loving the Wilier :-)

well done Phil. Abbotsbury is pretty isn't it. Shame its being ruined by commuting shortcuts. I used to go that way back home at night when working at Weymouth.

Bit hilly down that way isn't it!

69 kilometres with over 1400 metres of climbing with Colin J and my eldest son. It was a typical late October day; gloomy, damp, windy and cold. The trouble is, it's bloody August!

No not Surrey, South of Birmingham myself.

I'm a bit like MAZ - today I did my duty as a Vol Sustrans Ranger and cycled from where I live to the Transpennine trail, picked up 2 carrier bags of litter, dumped them and cycled back down the trail to where I started & back home, about 15 miles but the trail ride consisted of getting on and off the bike to pick up plastic & cans etc.
Still, a pleasant ride and feeling virtuous as well!
