If you do, be sure to let the Brum posse know! I'm less than 5 mins from Bournville.

Nice write-up too!

Is that where dark chocolate comes from??

thank you Simon.

A very pleasant way to while away a few spare minutes whilst contemplating rubbing down the woodwork and painting the hall,( prior to Mrs Peanut arriving home from Ireland on Sunday). With any luck I should find some other equally delightfull distraction to put off the inevitable a little longer

You really are a natural talent. You should write more ,perhaps a column .

My ride was going well, the second day on my slimmer slicker tyres is going a treat, untill i reach a dead line of traffic, bus lane packed on one side, and a gap on the other where there is a central set of painted lines between traffice islands that i could easily cycle down without hindering other traffic. All was going well untill another cyclist decided to join me from infront of a white van and smack into my sideways. luckily i saw the fools shadown coming and managed to pull on my ancors and shout whislt avoiding oncoming traffic, so the crash was a lot less painfull than needed.
Later down waiting in the ASL at a junction near hyde park. a numpty pulls up next to me and slowly edges forward. before attemping to jump the lights and then slowly back off becuase it wasn't such a good idea to do that on a blind junction. when the lights eventually went green, they set of at a slow pace and eventually lost balance becuase they didn't change down when they got to the lights and they toppled right into me. luckily i managed to dodge around but another cyclists had gone up my inside and i side swipped them. both times i got dodgy looks from both cyclists. as if it was my fault..

meh i think i will just move on, and i'm hoping i get a good cycle home. although i might attempt a slightly different route even though my legs hurt. no pain no gain.

I managed a modest 20 miles Tuesday night, quite a goodly distance for me all things considered. I felt quite chuffed and thought it would be nice to share my little triumph here.

I soon thought better of it however, on reading the previous post. A short and direct account of a 99 mile jaunt around Hampshire, Wiltshire and probably several other Counties!

The problem for me you see, there are some fairly stiff climbs around my neck of the woods in
South Somerset. Well they seem steep to me as I gasp and pant and haul my 17 stones up them

Tuesday evening, feeling a little better from my bout of urinary tract infection, I rode out with no particular route in mind but having conquered the nasty rise at Lopen and upon reaching the roundabout in reasonable shape, I decided on the spur of the moment to press on to the pretty village of Barrington, some 5 miles distant.

Barrington was more or less how I remembered it from my cycling trips a decade ago. Little seems to have changed. The wide, open, village high street with its beautiful broad leaf trees ,pretty gardens and thatched cottages to either side. Here and there the odd barn with timber doors ajar giving tantalizing glimpses of old Vintage cars undergoing restoration , a specialist kitchen joiner and a Georgian furniture conservation company.

A bit further on I passed the pub where locals sitting outside were already enjoying the evenings peace and tranquility after a hard days work.
Approaching the last cottage in the village I recognized Lisa and Pete’s home and there in the garden was George, Peanut’s brother .Abandoned by their mum at just a few days old the kittens were rescued and brought up by Mrs P and myself ,( along with a Tawny owl, bats 2x tortoise, a Buzzard and a lazy Doberman.)

On my return leg from
Barrington and approaching yet another steep incline I glanced down between my legs desperately hoping to see another couple of spare sprockets just as another cyclist on an MTB rocketed past with a cheery ‘hello’. By the time I had reached the top of the rise he was out of sight .

A few mile further on, along short stretch of the A303 from South Petherton to Martock, I managed to sustain an exhilarating 31mph on the flat for 3 miles. I secretly hoped to meet the man on the MTB again but alas it was not to be.

The final 5 miles were pretty grueling as every slight incline seemed to rise up like a small mountain and the protest from the muscles in my legs gradually became a scream.
19.4 miles damn ! I couldn’t even have made it a satisfying 20 miles .
Now if I could just stop eating for 5 minutes and lose a little weight …..well who knows what I might be capable of .

 I'm sure you said your 'problem' was getting better peanut!

 All good stuff - would be lovely to see an image or two (but not the one that bit of highlighted text conjures up eh? )

Had a great 20 miler along with my friends son (22 year old), who said and I quote "can ride me into the ground old man" ok we'll see .. even after offering some advice, "I can still beat you old man"

Me = Hybrid with specialized crossroad tyres
him = full suspension mountain bike with big knobbly tyres

Me = Bike kitted out to suit my riding style I.E seat hight / bars
Him = seat too low and too far forwards / handlebars high as they would go

me = light top / shorts / comfy shoes /hydration back pack / bananas / boost bars.
him = baggy T-shirt / top jacket / jeans / thick soled trainers / pop stuck in each pocket / nothing to eat.

Me = most enjoyable pace
him = riding around here there and everywhere.

He faded the last 3 miles (bless him) and walked the last mile home, even after I made adjustments to his bike to suit him more, the energy had all but gone, he even munched away my two boost bars plus an extra bottle of isotonic drink I brought along ( just in case)

Me = very content and relaxed
Him = I don't think he's going to sleep much tonight

Went to a place in Lancashire that, unbelievably, I'd never been before. That area on Morecambe Bay around Warton, Silverdale and Arnside. Very nice it is, too. Did 80k from Forton around Caton, Carnforth etc to the area and a nice cycle round before heading back.

I always thought that those road signs on the A40 to 'The Barringtons' and 'The Rissingtons' were directions to a world of cocktail parties and country house murder mysteries. You, as an inhabitant of this world, have now aquired a kind of Frederick Forsyth dimension. I picture you in the study, inspecting the assegai used to slay poor Miss Rissington....
