27 mile flat loop around Falkland yesterday. Had it my head to climb Falkland Hill our local leg tested and lung buster but bottled it and decided to visit a quality vendor of cake instead. :becool:

Averaged 16 mph which is a bit quicker than normal for me, I am hoping that the 20 mile a day commute is begining to pay dividends. We shall see over the next couple of weeks.

Weather today is very inclement, honking it down all morning, BBC say it should break about 4 but it may be a close run thing between training and a bottle of red. ;)

15 mile loop with Mrs Curtain, her first real outing after a serious ankle injury that saw her on crutches for a couple of months. A hard session for her given she has been unable to exercise for so long, but a necessary first step.

I did my longest ride to date 33.33 miles

.

well done PP thats a goodly distance and further than i can manage at the moment ;)
Hope you stocked up well on cake at the lunch stop

I managed 20 miles today on the dot. Very hot but a surprisingly strong headwind on the return leg made me cut my intended 25 mile route short.

Hobsons choice really. Either I did 25 miles and climbed 4 x medium hills or I took the shorter 20 mile route and faced the dreaded eggwood hill on wobbly legs. Never so glad to see the top of eggwood .

I did a brisk 10 mile hilly TT on the way out so i don't feel too bad about it. Phew its hot out there today

Just recovered from flu so haven't been on my bike for over 2 weeks and getting fed-up...

My next door neighbour just returned from doing the Walney Island [near Barrow] to Wear trip over four nights. He really enjoyed it... when he finished at Sunderland he cycled home via South Shields doing 61 miles on the last day.

We did five miles today as a family. My 6 year old Daughter has got the confidence now. She could ride at Easter but wanted you near. Another five tomorrow.... ice cream at halfway helps.

A lovely, peaceful ride from my place at Woolwich to Blackheath farmers' market - bit of an up and down, but otherwise very pleasant. Before I got myself a bike and started cycling, I didn't even realise everything was so close ;)
Now considering another ride, this time towards Erith, just to unwind before another week starts.

Going for a 30 mile route tomorrow, break that 30 mile box. The route is a bit weird, fairly hilly I guess... Here it is:

My longest so far in one go 25m hilly roads ( well hilly for me). I hit near my max heart rate today 188 (my max 194) It was warm and sunny with a bit of a breeze, nice. I went from Singleton W Sussex to Duncton, down Duncton Hill according to the garmin I hit 36mph at that stage then, #Graffam, Cocking, Didling back to Cocking up Cocking hill on mile 23 (last time I rode this, I had to get off twice, this time I perservered and managed it without stopping). I know 25m isn't far but this is a big deal for me and I hope to improve on it. Not bad considering I've got a sore throat and ear thing going on.

My last long ride I think for a while today, felt great no problems, went through 15quids worth or bars and gel and the last 30 miles rode myself to destruction when the group splitted I decided to sit 100m behind the ones booting it off, 22mph into a headwind was tough, when I got back into York my performance went through the floor and I crawled back to Wistow in a tough headwind it felt.

Was amazingly cold and wet up Tan Hill but was an interesting bunch of people, a few people had some guinness, I had half a pint, don't know if it helped me or not, one of which was going to be a rower in the Olympics in 2012, he was surprisingly fast up the hills, he did not look the type of person to be fast, beat me a few times, I beat him a few times hehe, this black guy, first time I've ever seen a black guy on a club run, was a nice guy, he flew on the hills literally into the distance no effort, used to be a sub 4min runner, don't know if that's good or not.

One of the guys got REALLY pissed off with me, I said I think I'm going to hold back on this, so he apparently took it steadier, I felt pretty crap after the lunch stop at Tan Hill and after a lunch stop I never really expect to keep on happily munching hills, but was going up one long windy hill near a firing range not far from Leyburn I was trying to take it easy, and he was really struggling behind me, I was surprised I managed to recover. I don't think his bike helped though he's got a temporary Trek Madone with SRAM Force so he's not used to the gears and the frame is too big so he can't get the handlebars low enough.

Anyway despite not being recommended to do this due to my knee and that I'd be an idiot I'm pretty happy I did do it, my knee gave me hardly any bother, no club run next week due to club race, going back to Manchester soon, winter coming I guess time to take it easy get myself sorted out.

So 165 miles, garmin reports 8,959ft don't know if it's correct, the route was supposed to be 7000 but my extra 22 miles might change it I guess, 8:55:56. Shame it was the same roads back as we came out.

Disastrous ride today  a comedy of errors.
Set off for my 40 ish mile loop, strong headwinds, so head down at 12 to 15 mph .
Got 9 miles in...bugger, they've been cutting hawthorn hedges at the edge of the road....you've guessed it...a sodding great thorn through the tyre.
Ah well, into a gate, phone out to tell the missus i may be a bit longer, and even as i was taking off the tyre, talking to her indoors....she said 'you did take the pump off your other bike didnt you'...(the one i used yesterday).........nooooooooooo xx(xx( I hadnt even realised as i was stripping the bike down.
Ignominiously(sp) rescued by my son in law. As i sat waiting, i thought i'll just check how many measly miles i'd done...and hit the button to clear the info on screen

Back home..two punctures (the first in a very very long time on my longer rides). Put on the Vredstein Tricomps i got a while ago. No particular reason...just fancy a change.

Bugger...

A very wet hilly (3,938ft of climbing) 105 miles. The Scottish Border organizer's said it be 160km with over 3000m of climbing, I guess they can't convert metric to imperial and when the say over 3000m, they mean nearly 4000ft.

The ride was well organised, the feed stations were particularly good, the people were really friendly and it was just a pity about the weather.
