Another trip to the allotment, it was a tad windy, came back faster that I went out even though I was carrying an extra 17 Kg...

Boy was the south westerly a bit stiff today, keeping with the no 1 golden rule, ride out into it, come home with it, the first 10 very hard work, the next 10 interesting as a side wind, many a green bank wobble. The last 10 home fast like spinning out on a 50x12 fast. Having bottled it over the last 2 days because of the rain it was great to do some puddle dodging.

Was a bit stupid today, got frustrated as no Road bikes which suit my needs have come up on ebay as of yet so i took my xc racer out (Kona Kula) on the roads, made it over 70 miles after not riding for quite a while (torn ligament 5 months ago) never really ridden on the roads so now my legs are suffering! Think i need to progress up to that milage, furthest i've done before is 55 on single track over a year ago!

Lanternrouge asked if anyone was doing the Evans Ride It MTB course on Saturday, so downloaded the forms, told him we'd be there but didn't get a reply, so didn't know who to look out for. Young Cubester decided he'd ride it too, and so we set off on the medium route (billed as 25 miles, but actually 28 on my computer, and two others I asked)

Hats off to Evans. It was well organised, very well signed route, with some good mixed riding. Just one or two really testing sections of narrow path with a rock step climb, and lots of luvverly mud and nettles. £12.50 on the day (tenner pre-booked), accompanied kids free, got you a nice carpark, a free energy gel or bar each, a memory map of the route each and they did all the planning for you. Whoever went round the course and put up all the signs, and even put ribbons in the trees at any ambiguous points along the way need congratulating. Bikewash at the end was a nice touch.

At eleven Cubester showed some grit. He manages the 10 to 20 mile club rides we do on a Thursday, which to be fair are more testing than the Evans route, so I took a chance that he'd be able to manage this one if we took it steady. He showed some signs of flagging after the halfway point, but started to discuss scalping other riders. This seemed to give him the edge, and we calculated that we were passed twice by single guys on expensive looking bikes, and passed well over a dozen other riders. The last mile of the route saw a climb up through the deerpark at Harewood House. It's a long and steep hill. I was thrilled to see Cubester man up and ride the whole climb, cycling past a lot of riders pushing.

We finished in 3.29, which I think was very respectable for an eleven year old.

Well done to the Cubester - good work!!

I had a nice trundle out this morning, bit chilly and had to resort to me Ron Hill Bikesters for the first time since winter - lovely and sunny now mind! Couple of hours out before wending my way home.

Quite a good run seeing as how I'd stayed up too late watching an Al Pacino film and I'd probably had 2 glasses of wine more than was good for me - still live and not learn eh....

Anyway I was on my new machine - I like it!!

64K with 978m of climb around the Lancs/Yorks border. The weather was weird too. It was cold and windy this morning and cold and windy when I finished but about half way round, the sun came out with a ferocity that surprised me and I regretted the warm gear I had on. Not for long though, it soon became autumnal again.

A very pleasant day for a leisurely run, warm too, had my shirt sleeves rolled up most of the way. Numerous stops to sample the fruits of the countryside, raspberries, blaeberries and brambles.
