I was looking at the results for some 50 odd time trial, people even in there 50's, even some woman, averaging 25-28mph over that distance!! I'd be hard pushed to do 21 me!

Don't underestimate 'even some woman', you're talking about Beryl Burton there, she was quite some athlete.

Just my normal commute into work this morning. After getting the bike fixed yesterday (New gears, brake cables and bottom bracket tightened on my 3wk old Apollo FS26S) it runs preety bloody good now.

managed the ride in just under 30mins and I barely broke a sweat. Going to aim to do the 6 miles in about 25 minutes in the next couple of weeks!!

Just back from a 25 - 2nd with 0:59:30. There was a fair headwind on the return legs which slowed most people down. Started to get cramp at 36km which didn't help. Now settling down to recovery in preparation for tomorrow morning's 50!

Seeing willhub's comments further up, the chap who came 3rd with 0:59:35 was 68! Still knocking out fast times at 10, 25 and 50.

Just back from riding into N.Wales. Rode up the Horseshoe pass and inadvertently found myself riding among a sportive (Merida), got my picture taken on the Horseshoe (no idea if I'll be able to find the picture given that I didn't have a race number!). I called into Llandegla for a coffee and snack and sat on a table with another couple of roadies, I remarked that one of them looked like Steve Cummings, turned out it was his brother Graham  So we all rode back (his mate Mark) to Heswall area together, out of Wales like a bat out of hell, boy can he climb!
Good couple of guys, it's great when you meet people you get on with on a ride!

My usual, now becomming boring 22 miles. That makes a grand total of 162 miles for me this week, so I am quite pleased with that
Well done, have you got your new road bike? An easy way to mix it up is to head to Townhill then along the Saline Road and rejoining the path before Forrest Mill.

Went on a ride with my mate Paul and young Cubester. Decided to follow our noses, but take in some known tracks and landmarks. Did some old bridleways up to New Hey Rd (A640) then rode to the donkey trail which leads down to Marsden Packhorse. Then crossed manchester Rd and climbed Wesenden Head, going down into Meltham then Blackmoorfoot, running out of daylight so climbed back up to Scape via Milnsbridge and the back of Golcar. Totalled 26 miles with 2100 feet of climbing. Nearly killed poor old Cubester that final climb. He was in tears by the time we got home. Bless..

Three miles to my 'local' Aldi in Tottenham, AKA the Badlands, only to find they'd sold out of everything bar the gloves...which I don't need.

Then a mile up the road to Ally Pally with the littlun to get conkers. Loads. I don't know, when I were a lad they were quite hard to find, but it seems these days most kids just aren't interested. *sigh*

Lovely day tho'!

I normally ride alone - I'm not anti-social but it's my route, my pace and my stops. Everytime I had ridden with a group in Bangkok I have come home and said "Never, ever again!" and today was no exception. It was Bangkok Car Free Day - meeting point was aabout 7km from home then a few km to a university sports field where we will assemble and make the map of Thailand - last year, the map was photographed by hot air balloon. Got to the iniversity OK, got a free T-shirt (too small for me but will fit Mrs Hippo), I refused the free breakfast and then it was time to make the map. Onto the field where I was given a free backpack and umbrella, was shown to my place on the map and had to stand there until the map was mage - sorry but I don't do standing still for over an hour - my thighs starting screaming and decided to make a quick exit. Went to the portaloo and was approached by a steward who wanted the backpack & umbrella back!
Mrs Hippo is now under strict instructions to chain me down and lock my bikes up if I even think about going out in a group again!

Last night I went out with a good friend that has just come back to Vietnam. We did lot of talking, eating and drinking, so going out for a 62 Km ride this morning in some very hot and sunny weather was not the best idea I've ever had. Was I glad to get home again and get a nice cool shower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

50 mile TT this morning on the A11 at Attleborough (B50/18). I started off slowly and paced myself well and continuously ramped up the speed. I think I had a reasonable position given the ache from yesterday's efforts and aerodynamically assisted by a Camelbak for water hydration. Finished in 2:02:50, with the second half at an average of 41km/h. 22nd out of the 66 listed on the start sheet. Happy with the time but my trapezius and tricep muscles are painful!

25 ridiculously slow but happy, sunny miles round Leeds today. Baby due 2 months today so every ride now is just cherished as it might be 'the last one' before it gets too uncomfortable/unsafe etc. Highlight was a wonderful deer bounding across the road up at the top of a moor. Fabulous.
