The Forestry Centre at Rosliston the destination, 59 miles the journey, A damp grey cold morning, lanes deep in mud, water and debris, but a good ride out, I managed to not get lost this time, I got lost last time, came out the cafe and it was p****** down, put on my waterproof jacket and set out into a slight headwind for a slow hard ride home, I was passed by the club ride just outside of Coventry, my legs were shot by then I just had to watch them go, all in all a decent morning out on the bike.

Bit of a disaster day today...set off for the club ride...10 miles to the start...cold horrid....joined ride....35 miles in tea stop...all is well...except for the hyperthermia....then set off in a splinter group.....group gets lost.....hyperthermia becoming an issue....we each split to go our own ways back.....bang rear tyre blow out....rain gets heavier and colder...get spare tube out....arrggh....short valve on deep rims...pump doesn't clamp on.....getting colder and greyer....cyclists stops to help....got no spare tube....really raining hard....turning blue....tried all I know....reach for phone and call international rescue....park bum on rock...head between legs.....freezing...look down at small hole under rock.....at Mr & Mrs Mouse sticking heads out of their front door...look up at me with eyes asking ....so just WTF do you think you are doing on our drive?!

Hyperthermia affecting judgement...seeing things?? ...kick rock....mice scarper....I feel bad....what did the mice do to deserve that...idiot.....international rescue arrive....Thunderbird two fitted with thermo blast heating...just the job.....

Clean bike of limitless crud....tea....hot shower....sofa football on radio....

The met forecast said it wouldn't start raining till 3pm; it was wrong it started when we left at 9am and the snow in Rutland made it an interesting ride!

The GC Stats look better and it lets me get rid of the start and end through town (18.8mph for 40miles) but I doubt its max speed on wet roads; strava and RWGPS place it below 33mph.

I am going to church tonight to say thank you. It was raining this morning before I went out, then the sun came out a little and the rain stopped and didn't start again until 15 minutes after I arrived back home, which it has been doing ever since.

I went out and did a 40 miler down to Writtle and back around the lanes on my Trek hybrid. Quite a head wind on the way down but coming home was great. A one point for a few miles I had a perfect strong tailwind. For someone who generally plods along at 12/13 mph zooming along at 18/19 mph for a few miles was most exhilarating until a roadie passed me like I was standing still. Git!

Overall a good ride and I am pleased to be keeping up the miles.

Up early and got the 8.40am train to Neston, Sun shining. Got there at 9.20am and started to cycle home via the new, nearly finished cycle path from the Wirral to Deeside.

From Deeside I took NCN5 to Chester and stopped for a quick butty, I find myself bringing a sandwich more and more on my rides

Pub was closed when passing ....bloody Sunday hours

Home in under 2hours ....its still very cold, but I missed the hailstones

Nice meandering ride back from Harewood, got rid of the fuggyness from my 8 pints last night after about 10 mile. A good mix of cyclists out and about. The weather wasn't too bad so stripped off my longs and did most of it in my shorts, which was ok until the hail stones started I think I may of found the perfect blue for my next frame it didn't look so good on my legs though.

Snowed overnight and snowing again @9am. Got out for 9.30. 42 miles, 4,200ft ascent over Saddleworth Moor, Meltham, Marsden and then home
Really great conditions, above freezing and almost no wind. Plenty of snow on the ground above about 1,200ft. A few interesting things to report:

Got passed by a young, fast guy heading E over Saddleworth Moor. Latched on and then powered past him. We swapped places for about 4 miles, probably averaging about 35mph (downhill a bit). I turned left and he shot past shouting "come on u fecker!!!".....charming

Weasel (black tip to the tail) ran across the road with a mouse in its mouth. Only the 3rd time I've ever seen one

Held up a car a bit so, when it passed me, I waved thanks. Turned out it was a police car so to thank me for the thanks he turned on his lights on the roof!

Wasn't going to ride today but mid-afternoon the sun came out so I decided to nip out and do my favourite 20 mile loop through Tatton park.

Bike was making a bit of a racket and gear changes were a bit ropey, investigated once I'd got home and maybe my wet commute home on Saturday morning was the cause

First ride since a slight disagreement with gravity last Sunday ( ), so it was a case of taking it easy, wearing a woolly hat instead of a cycle helmet (forehead is still too badly bruised) and nursing a cracked rib, so just basically quietly looking after myself... So choose a cycle ride around Loch Rannoch in the snow... usual 37km route around the loch, only saw a handful of cars and several cheery hellos from locals.

There should be some Munroe's visible, but the snow storm that hit us a while later had them totally hidden for most of the ride and I was less than inclined to get the camera out to show the mobile snowmen we had become!

Looking West (notice the patch of blue sky. It kindly hid for the rest of the ride and only reappeared after we returned to our friends' holiday home....)

Luckily with the tourist season not having yet started, the roads are plenty quiet enough for woolly hats rather than cycle helmets...

A slow but pleasant 23 or so miles over 2 hours. Good to be back out on the bikes after a week of no cycling, but the road bike might have to wait a while longer for my thumb to stop hurting so I can actually change gear and hold the hoods and for my cracked rib to stop hurting me.

Out on the club run as usual today, covered not far short of 50 miles in variable conditions. Best bit was the view somewhere near ashwell in herts, overlooking a valley in a rare moment of sun while the group cruised along was a lovely highlight :-) .
