My lovely OH has given her blessing for a n+1. I have recently started riding with a local club on my touring bike and looking a a photo from the ride she noted I could probably do with a lighter bike. I am looking at https://www.evanscycles.com/bmc-teammachine-alr01-105-2016-road-bike-EV233467 or https://www.evanscycles.com/cube-attain-sl-2017-road-bike-EV287829. Any thoughts on what might be the best deal. Obviously I am gong to test ride them both. Or if you have a suggestion for something equivalent or better for same type of budget I would be interested to know. Thanks in advance for your help. I will be gong my LBS to see what they have to offer as well as they have looked after me well.

She can weigh by the power of her eyes?

I love the BMC, a guy in my group has one. I secretly covet it on every ride.

Saying that, for a grand you could go full carbon. Look at the 2016 Giant TCR 3 advanced.

If you want as light a bike as possible as you have the all weather option covered, a carbon bike makes sense.

Whereabouts are you in the country, as Ribble, Dolan etc as well as LBS like Paul's or Rutland cycles can have some v good end of line deals

E.g. giant Defy with Ultegra for £750 https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s6p6992/GIANT-DEFY-0-2016

Or Cube carbon with Ultegra for a grand

https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s6p6694/CUBE-ATTAIN-GTC-RACE-2016

That said, if local and the right size, this is gorgeous and a bargain, the frame alone sells for around £600

There's a lot of choice at that price point. I'd have look at what your lbs have to offer.

The thing that really irritates me about the ali Cubes is the ugly unfinished frame welds but may not bother you. Boardmans get good press on here and elsewhere and have smoothed welds, worth a look

Do you mean Alu or alloy? Not clear to me what ali is
