Hi,

I have a gore Xenon jacket, its a few years old but in excellent condition. Except that now the insert pin at the end of the zip has come off. The zip still works fine, but if I carry on using it the fabric will start to fray and make pin replacement impossible (if its not already).

I know there are specialists that can replace the zip, I have been into town and they say £18 for a new zip - but Im not sure I trust them with goretex. I would really just like to replace the pin if possible.

This is the bit thats missing from a stock photo...

Anyone know if it is possible to replace just the pin? Or have you had a zip replaced by a specialist or high street place?

I had one done on a pair of leather motorcycle trousers about fifteen years ago and it was still going strong when I last had a bike three years ago. I think most cobblers will fit zips, I wouldn't worry too much about damage as they know what they are doing and it isn't exactly rocket science.

The price sounds about right, but have you contacted Gore to see if they can do anything for you?

I sent an old 851 jacket to Assos a few years ago and had the zips replaced, new reflective strips, and a few holes patched up for free.

I had a zip go on my Gore jacket, dry cleaners replaced the zip £15 3 years ago, still wearing the jacket.

£18 is good including time to do it. I just ask my missus for repairs.
