I'm in Nigeria this week so a bit nearer the action.

What the hell is going on there? Genuine misunderstanding or some kind of mass theft of innocent children for starring roles in Belgian porn videos, abuse, juju sacrifice rituals etc, with maybe an lucky handful finding genuine loving homes?

Usually in Africa when something like this happens it means there's been a change of "management" in the corrupt organisation concerned and the new managers are jostling for a share of the "dash". It happens at Lagos airport in the Customs department every year. This implies that it's something, which has been going on for a long time.

I'm worried.

I saw a piece on the news at the weekend. It included a video clip released by the press agency one of the journalists originally arrested with the group was working for. It showed a woman and a man from the group being interviewed. They were saying it was a victory getting the children out of refugee camps but they were still a long way from France. From the footage shown and the English translation it looked like the group knew the children weren't orphans but they believed they were doing the right thing getting the children away from the camp with the intent of putting them up for adoption in Europe. If all that's true and the translation was accurate it could be (very) misplaced good intentions rather than a front for child slavery. I doubt traders would have had a film crew with them. I'm not sure what to think about this one. At the end of the day if you go to another country you should respect their laws.
