I should be CAT B. Sure I’m doing over 3.2 w/kg in races. Does it just eventually upgrade you automatically then?
Yes. In ZP there is an 'info' button. This shows your top 3 race averages and it takes your cat from that. If you don't race much or do longer (and hence lower watts rides) you may get given a lower cat than what you would be in a (say) 60 minute race. ToW rides, or Bridgy's meetups, don't count in the rankings either.

Question : I have the Zipp wheels with the Super 8 discs .... should I use these for Stage 2 as it's (mostly) flat, or stick to standard Zipp 808 wheels? I'm assuming the discs on a light P5 bike will add a little extra aero but I could be wrong.

Assuming we have no house viewings this afternoon I may sign up to the 2 o'clock run of the stage with @CXRAndy as a recce. Rest day today so should feel nice and fresh tomorrow :training:

Stage 2 : 51.31

Hmm bit disappointed. Got home 2 mins before 5 o clock stage went off and thought I may as well. Ended up starting right at the very back trying to sprint through the sticky draft of a thousand or so riders with no warm up :banghead:

Fluked a decent group for first half but then with the lapping of slower groups got completely fragmented and ended up basically TTing between group to group then trying to sprint out of sticky draft. Might actually be better doing this group with a smaller group but maybe the draft effect for the first half will help, but average watts were a bit dung. I'll be happier if i do it later in the week with better watts and a slower time.

Definitely worth looking out for the names of the riders you are with after 3 or 4 laps so when you smash into a slower group you know who to follow. first 3 laps 5.30-5.40, slowing to 6.21 on the second last lap at i became more isolated.

Had a blast round 5 pm Stage 2 , first couple of laps seemed really quick then we started to overtake lapped riders and it everyone seemed to get a bit swamped together. You’ve got to keep pushing through the lapped riders or you’ll end up slowing down but you have to concentrate to try and keep the draft of your fast group, although there was only thre or four of us together towards the end. Bonus aero every lap, used mine on little kicker into volcano. Came 60 th in 47: 52 , still coughing and wheezing a bit but nearly there . Tough stage !

A blast is right - absolutely cracking time. 60th out of 587 :notworthy:

Interesting observations @mjd1988 and @Alongo ..... i did wonder if this is the kind of lap where you want enough riders to draft with and get some good speed, but not too many that the sticky draft hampers you. I'm going for a pop tomorrow hopefully at 2 o'clock which I assume will be quite sparse in numbers, and will definitely do it again Thursday evening with of CCers which I suspect will be very busy.

Wasn't sure what time to expect, so thanks for setting a targets and will let those to come afterwards an opportunity to pace ourselves :okay:

edit ; just saw there were only 400 in your ride .... feck .... gonna be busy if the rider numbers get up to 3000 like my first stage 1 ride

My laps varied from 5:14 - 5 :46 , all seemed to be full on with no easing off!

May well have another go later in the week because I was clearly fatigued and got nowhere near normal power outputs. Still, it was good training for toughing out an hour when it all hurts

Interesting dynamic when you are lapping lots of riders and navigating the sticky draft.

Cycling around my old neck of the woods. Used to live in Solihull (actually met HID there and married there) - Knowle was a particular favourite of ours to grab a beer and a curry :hungry:

I cycle that way a fair bit, nice roads and countryside there - and only about 15 miles from Warwick where I live. I used to work in Wharf Lane and then Homer Road for quite a few years, so also have quite an attachment to Solihull.

Well done to those who've already had a crack at Stage 2. I need to fit it in either tomorrow or Thursday as I'm away to Spain on Friday :sun:

I've updated the league table with the early results. Let me know if you think I've missed anything or you have any complaints about your categorisation
