I really need to start watch Star Wars movies again to refresh my memories

I have seen them all in the theatre(s), the original series more than once.

@Whorty was that you I saw today. I had a star marker vanishing up the alpe at one point but could not get the name.

My legs are blinking sore after that today. A 2 hour spiked gran fondo workout leading into the last few corners of the alpe. Then completing the climb and a zoom down.
It was me. I waved :hello: I sub 1 houred on that climb, then thought "feck it", why don't I go down and climb it again  My first D'eux D'Alpe (as the strava segment has it). 2hrs 43 mins to go up, down, up, down  My legs may be a little bit tired now :B) And my body about 2000 calories in deficit ^_^

Sleep now :tired:

Completed ToW Stage 2, but very nearly didn't. Was all lined up for the 3pm start, as that was the most populated - was at about 800 riders with three minutes still to go - and then riders started to disappear from the pier one by one. My PC had suddenly decided it could cope without the internet for some reason. Wi-Fi was still showing up as being connected and my wife was able to access it from her iPad, but it just wasn't passing any data to Windows for some reason. Cue an avalanche of swearing and restarting various items, but to no avail - by the time I got it back, the pack were halfway round the first lap and there was no way I was going to play catch up.

Being very annoyed (to say the least) I decided not to enter the 4pm one (plus that was the one with the least riders signed up) and waited until 5pm and crossed my fingers. 630 riders this time and I did actually get to ride - although I will say that any time a rider ahead of me vanished from my view, I started to get super paranoid, though on each occasion it was just a one-off (assuming it was them with the problem, not me).

Probably went off too fast - as I joined the pen super early, I was with the flyers at the front and held on to them as long as I could, meaning I was only just outside the top 100 as we crossed the lap marker for the first time. By two laps done, I'd settled into a decent sized group in around 220th and both my laps to that point were a good 20 seconds faster than my previous lap PR. It was at that point I got dropped and fell into my usual no-man's land where I was a good 5 seconds away from both the riders ahead and behind me. Losing that draft cost me valuable time, but by the time the 4th lap rolled round, I was back in a pack in 250th-ish (already had been lapped by the leaders once by this point).

Got two more reasonable timed laps in and that's when fatigue hit and I started to drop backwards through the field quite quickly. Next two laps were 30 and 40 seconds behind my best and I was going to struggle to stay inside the top 300. However I found a second wind on the final lap chasing down a particular rider (almost had him until he pulled away in the final sprint) and a semi-decent lap time again meant I crossed the line in 297th with a final time of 56:43. Considering I said I was aiming for 57 minutes, I think that's pretty good. I'll ignore that I was on for something more like 55:30 at the halfway mark!

Blown away by the support from this thread. As a forum newbie to a busy thread it's great to get so much interaction. It's very motivating so thank you very much! Just wish I could join in the Star Wars chat and not just have to post ride stuff!

Ahh good to see another Paris Roubaix viewer.. I half-watched from about 160km to go but that finale was really good. Massive effort from the old timer. I love Gilbert, he's been around the block for sure. Has he got that last Monument in him?

Super disappointed with Sagan but the talk is he's been riding ill, so 5th place is still actually really good if he was suffering. I know he's perfect for fan boys but he's box office and the sport needs those characters!

Gilbert wins 5th Monument Paris Roubaix. Just needs Milan San Remo for full set.

It was a great full on battle

I felt really sorry for Wout Van Aert. To have happen to him, what did, and still make it back to the lead group was a phenominal ride. It's a shame he couldn't make it stick. He deserved better than he got.
