If I cant get into a ride because I selected too late from the 'App' I shut down Zwift then restart, hopefully in the start up page the race appears and I select it the press ride. I then get join tab instantly. Once a race has started and doesn't allow late joining, you've missed it.

I get the impression some of you haven’t encountered the specific problem I had last night before. I can assure you it is very frustrating when it happens and you’ve tried everything you can. I have a feeling it’s a combination of poor internet connection and late registration via the app, after you have loaded up Zwift.

It might be a bug, but I never have Zwift running whilst trying to select a race/event. Maybe that is the issue?

Tommy, the reason I asked if you clicked Ride - is because the "Join" option only comes on once you click "Ride". Just checking.

I've done about 800 zwift events and don't ever recall not getting the 'Join Event' button while warming up beforehand.
If you don't get a pop up on screen with 30 mins to go I'd leave event in the companion app then rejoin event initially. That should work, but if not, rebooting zwift will probably work.

I did mate. Sorry I wasn’t trying to be short. I rejoined watopia at around 3 minutes before the race was supposed to start and no invite was forthcoming. Then spent a few minutes cycling around aimllessly cursing. The last minute nature of all this of course compounds it. I didn’t leave the event via the app before trying to re join via the software. So I’m not entirely sure what combination or chain of events culiminated in me not getting the golden ticket.
It’s happened to me 3 times including last night. Once previously in a race and once in a meet up event. With the meet up event I’d joined the event several hours earlier through the companion app while not logged onto Zwift. With the previous race it’s very possible I joined via the companion app after logging into Zwift. Looks like at least two other people here in this small enclave have had the same problem while trying to enter a race via the companion app after logging in to Zwift rather than before hand.
Do you know if there’s a set timing as to when you should receive your invite? e.g 20 mins or whatever.

The 'Join Event' in game appears 30 mins before event; then will automatically transfer you to the pen ~4mins before start if you ignore reminder. You get other reminders through the companion if selected in your settings. If you are in zwift the companion app will also give you an option to join the event but I've not tried this method.
