My fasted penitent ride. Family over this weekend, over indulged yesterday.

Tranquil Lincolnshire this morning

Sherpa Dave has done a 'bike change' special youtube for Tuesday's race ..... basically, if you are D then change every time.

If C and not in lead group, then change every time.

If C and at pointy end, and you are in the red, then change as the right bike for the surface will help keep you from going over the edge. (this is me, so maybe I need to use the laptop and change bikes 3 times in the race)

If B then you're going to be confused  Lots of ifs and buts

Although I won’t be racing I rode the course today on ATV and tried to change bikes 🙈 What a mess that was. Out of curiosity I then hooked up my Frankenstein zwift pc and had a look at the course. My god Makuri is gorgeous on PC with A 5 year old graphics card. Obviously irrelevant when racing but none the less the designers have done a great job.

It looked like a few people were practising the bike changes one of whom seemed to get stuck with the trainer attached to the road bike before the gravel bike 😁

fwiw using my tron I drafted a gravel bike for a short distance on the hill, admittedly they were only putting out 2w\k, but I was just under 2w/k perhaps suggesting the difference in bike performance is less significant if you get the draft of a gravel bike user before they get away. If….

Keeping up the threshold work then, @bobinski 👍

Since you asked (sarcastically)

Turns out I had a mild dose of covid this past week. I thought just run down but family insisted i take a test. Feel prettty good today and putting that down to double dose vaccine. Gotta love science. Family seem a little dissapointed they can no longer isolate me in the living room:biggrin:

Your hipster pizza just got down graded to Papa Johns

Assuming most people Tron im going to stick with safety in numbers. If more people switched it would make more sense to me

Ideally though maybe you’d make your choice based on what the people around you are doing in the race rather than the racers as a whole. Dunno… I think really it still looks to me like you want to leave your the option of a change at some point. But for me I’m just going Tron. If someone overtakes me up the last climb on a gravel bike, mountain bike, ski lift or whatever else I’m just going to have to say fair play because I really can’t be arsed to practice changing bikes. In fact the thought of plugging the lap top into the TV feels like too much effort. I’m just hoping this doesn’t become a regular thing.

For what it’s worth I’m just trying to finish as high up the results as possible rather than going for points.

Thank for all the great advice :okay:

Did some swimming with the family this morning, then went for a walk in the park... All I need now is a bit of cycling and I can call it a 'family triathlon'

Went to SportsDirect and got the roller. Never thought a piece of pipe with some foam can cost £16 - and that's after a 50% discount

Also watched some videos about post-ride stretching.

I have some of the longer Watopia route badges to tick off so I was going to plan to tackle them over the winter - probably a saturday or Sunday morning if anyone wants to join?
I would be willing but I might be too slow and not have the endurance.

Are any of you guys doing bike swaps on Tuesday?
I’m not comfortable with it & was wondering if staying on a gravel bike might be worthwhile. Some are going MTB on the final climb.

I've decided yes, so will be using the laptop rather than ATV.

I did a race on Friday where I started on the gravel ... got dropped within a couple of minutes by lead group and even though was pushing higher numbers than normal, and right on my limit, I couldn't hold on to wheels at all.

I'm 30+ seconds faster on the climb on a gravel bike compared to a road bike. I'll lose 10-15 seconds each time I switch, so probably won't gain time overall but ... and this is key for me in C .... it will give me a better chance of FTS & FAL points on the KoM.

Assuming I don't feck up the changes of course
