As well as power, it is interesting to see your Normalised Power (NP) because that is an indicator of real difficulty. It is much easier to put out say a steady power of 230 watts (average 230) rather than say 150 watts for most of the time mixed with lots of surges of 3, 4, 500 watts.

Lee, Jeff has mentioned the 'difficulty' setting, this makes the resistance harder or less. only 6% max yesterday.

You still need to make the power, either by high rpm cadence or outright leg strength, it just moves you into a different area of gearing for your bike/type of rider.

I leave mine on the middle for the kickr because its so similar to trainer road and outdoors.

I think Boxers said he upped his difficulty to maximum and then felt the hills were much harder.

Zwift is very much like outdoors once you've got it setup. At least you were using real power numbers from the hub PM ^_^

I leave it at 100% not out of misplaced machismo but because I want the gradient to feel like it will in real life.

Im not allowed cake at the moment

The sacrifice will be worthwhile Andy :training:

Bob your average cadence indicates you look to keep it lower than say me or Dean

Well, this is where it begins to look like i am making excuses ^_^
I would normally hope to spin at 90 ish.But because i could not spend long periods on the hoods coz of my shoulder i was sat up more than i would have liked which unfortunately for me means a lower cadence. Also, if anyone sets the trainer difficulty at less than 100 % wont that generally encourage a higher cadence?

I suppose it does , which for me is preferably when climbing or distance riding.

How do you set trainer ? Never seen it before
Andy - you were there as well ? I might as well of had my eyes closed

I wasn't in the race, looking at the course it wasn't as bad as I thought, only 0.6 mile main climb. I wouldn't of lost too much time and should of been able to claw it back in the downhill and flat section. I might join in with a hilly race next time I'm free. Not a mountain race though, I will be beaten up too easily compared to the like of you Bob Dean et all.

Got on zwift earlier this week for a training session, did the wringer which nearly broke me, got off with shaking legs and hands.

Might try a race this evening, but I'm doing a long ride tomorrow so don't want to kill myself. Realised that part of my difficulty with the last race I did was possibly down to using the TT bike, so wasn't getting any draft benefit - no wonder I was spiking power everywhere in the groups.

Got a new fan yesterday though as well, which should help with the cooling issues I've had on the trainer to date.

Dean, you would say it's undulating .

I'll ride it when back off our jollies to get a feel for the course. I might do two loops near FTP to see what time I would likely get in a race

Nice EVR race today. Watopia-8, so just up the little KOM twice. ~80 riders in total, no strict categories, though many have their category tagged (which certainly helps).

Rode a bit more constrained at the start -- there's no way I'm going to hang with the A/B or even faster C racers, so I tried to go reasonably hard, but more sustainable pace. The fast groups were gone in a flash, but reasonably paced group formed with perhaps 10-15. We strung out over the first KOM and I went from the front to the back of the group, then started clawing my way back through the flat before the downhill. Mechanical (couldn't get into big ring), forced me off the bike during the downhill and I lost the group. Rode with a D. Stevens for several miles with both of us pulling and we reeled in a couple pairs of riders and formed another small group prior the KOM in the other direction. The second KOM forced me off the pace -- I wasn't terribly far behind when we hit the flat section, but I just didn't have anything to dig in with to try and catch them again. 7th out of around 20 C racers. Didn't feel nearly as painful as yesterday.
