I rarely ride below 100% and when I do it is only on group rides. This is because if the ride is fast paced and the others are riding at say 50% they are not being slowed by changing gears whereas I am. Especially dropping to the 34 on the front or when I fluff the right gear change. So I ride at 50% to avoid falling off the back.
I do think that if you are training for mountain riding there is no benefit, other than protecting knees, in riding at say 50% at a higher Cadence. I am not convinced it’s good for developing the strength or technique you will need IRL. Otherwise watts are watts although if you can generate more power spinning than grinding then you will get an advantage you won’t get to enjoy in real life.

I would have thought that if you had any plans to ride some of the big climbs in real life riding at 100% was the way to go if you want to replicate as near as possible how it's going to feel. On some of the brutal inclines you aren't likely to have the opportunity in real life to spin up it unless you've a massive dinner plate sized rear sprocket.[/QUOTE

That's exactly what I do have for mountains, 28t chainring 40t rear cassette

50% feels like my setup

I had 34 / 32 on the hire bike when I did the RAID. It was good although as the week went on I felt I could have done with even easier gearing!

I only have a dumb turbo - with Powermeter - so I don't have the decision to make about what % I set on Zwift.

I'm doing the Fred Whitton next year and plan to use the Roubaix I recently acquired running a 34 chainring and 11-32 cassette. Will be tough up Hardknott

You can now get the new 11-34 11speed Shimano Cass for climbing, fits with their GS cage derailleur
Mine is a Shimano XT Di2 MTB setup

You can also get 33t to fit most compact inner ring PCD

And

11-40/42/46 10/11 spd cassette

I've seen them fitted to road di2 setups

I love the new route on Watopia. Lots of fantastic detail, nice undulating course and I imagine great for racing. I was a bit shocked by the amount of climbing to get there but nabbed a few pb’s up the mountain which was nice. If the new route is a sign of things to come then the anticipated hour long climb should actually be something to look forward to^_^
