what I can’t work out is he doing this non stop? The article says it’s being done over 3-4 days so surely he isn’t going without sleep for that long????

i was thinking of doing an outdoor Everest challenge this summer to raise funds for a local charity. I’ve just booked a family vacation to Australia so I’ve cancelled plans for Irl racing to reduce the chances of accidents, so the challengewould give me something to train for.

Has anyone else on here done the Everest challenge?

Where are you thinking of everesting? I see some people have done slieve croob and stormont (most work anyone's ever done there...) believe it or not! Or maybe you have your eye or somewhere a bit more exotic

Nice one.

I recently got the 7 day award, so not in your league

My friend and I planned an everesting this year on a lovely local hill here in Catalunya, 28reps of a 7km climb at about 4%. However after the half attempt to practice and iron out practicalities I decided that as I had already started to really suffer that I didn't want to suffer for another 8 hours which is what it would have taken. I concluded that my aggressive riding style was not suited to this type of challenge. I think you have to be the type of rider who can spin low gears. If you have any questions ask, I'll happily give you the benefit of what I did learn!

Question:
Do you all go start racing during the lead time for a race then and if so what is the point of having a lead time if the time is recorded at the start gates?
Lead time is part of a stage so it's counted as well. I think everyone who are racing start to race from the pen.

In the Zwift organised events/races the "lead-in" is kind of meaningless. It's a race from the moment you start. I'm not totally sure, but I think the reason you sometimes have a "lead-in" is because the race starts from starting pens which may be some way from the course proper

You may be confusing the lead-in with the timing gap between starting and the clock starting which often seems to vary between 10 and 40 seconds. It bugs me because it distorts your power stats especially if you go flat out from the gun.

The Lead-in on the other hand is the section between starting and hitting an official route start - so if it says the race is 2 laps of Route X, the time between the start gun and the start of the route proper is the lead-in.

Is that clear or have I made it more confusing?

As Juha says, race from the pen. The 'lead-in' is a misnomer in Zwift - it's been debated a lot on Facebook, and there are requests to Zwift to remove it but alas, not happened yet.

3.1 w/kg ... and you're plodding along  wish I could plod for an hour at that rate :heat:
I did feel quite strong today!

I've made a few changes just to keep things steady and avoid any sudden hard efforts.

I'm not smashing it out of the start gate and I'm trying to copy you and settle into a group early on that I can work with at a steady pace and get a bit of a tow from when I need it.

Likewise, I'm relying on keeping a steady tempo on the climbs. I don't try and follow people if they jump, I just keep riding at a tempo I feel ok with. Today, that seemed to work well on Keith Hill. I got a bit swamped at the bottom and lost about 10-20 places, but made most of those back as we climbed.

Like I said yesterday, putting the trainer reality back up to 50% seems to be helping with this approach. I suppose what I'm trying to do is rely on leg strength, which is quite good, and avoid any sudden burst that place greater strain on my cardio-vascular system. I felt very comfortable today

So, I seem to be doing ok with my underlying power, just losing time where I would have attacked or responded to attacks before.

It's certainly a tactic that is seeing me do quite well. I'll never be a super fast rider, but on these rides I'm holding my own in the lower B / higher C riders. Hopefully in the next 6 months I'll shed another 6kg which can only help me :okay:

On the climbs, I ignore everyone around me and, like you say, just get into a nice tempo. I try to stay out the red. What i will do though is see who is in front/behind me with about 1km to go as it's always nice to get into a group on the descent.
