Been thinking what people have said about the Everest challenge
Hard to think what way would be best
If it was a long steady climb it is definitely easy to pedal yourself into a trance and just turn off but no hill is long enough to not have to come down a lot of times , it’s the downs that I think would get to you as you wouldn’t be able to stop thinking that your getting no where
Too shallow and it will be many miles. Too steep and it would be a killer
Repeats of a single place would do my crust in. I would think of a route a-b in a mountainous place or somewhere like wales or Scotland that have huge not too steep hills and a big circular route
For it to count as an "official" everesting I think it has to be repeats of the same climb, up & down - as opposed to a circular route or a-b route. Obviously it might not matter to you if it was officially recognised or not, but it would kind of become "just" an epic ride rather than an Everesting ride

The volcano in Tenerife isn’t very steep and just goes on and on but coming down that long straight became so boring even doing it once - if you had to do it 5 times it would send you round the twist - or fall asleep

Lee do you remember the Dutch guy staying in the same house as us in the alps this summer? He told me every year they do a charity ride up alpe d’huez. For every ascent you manage, the event sponsors give a donation to a kids charity. It sounded brilliant. Big crowds show up to cheer you on and everyone’s on the same mission. I think that’s where I’d head back to if a fancied a crack at it.

Too steep for an Everesting for me anyway. Mind you, I don't plan one any time soon anyway

Ive never gone down the way you did Lee, Ive always had to endure the endless straight climbing up^_^

There are a number of quiet side roads with around 6-8% which some use for repeated elevation challenges

i made a big mistake going down that way - about 18 mile of nothing to do except stay awake - much better going down the twisty way

Dunno mate... If you or someone else said they were doing it I might sign up. But it seems like a lot of self inflicted punishment! I know a guy who did it up swains lane in Highgate and I didn’t really see the point. I’m sure it was bloody tough and fair play to him and all that. But I think if I did it I’d want to go somewhere slightly more interesting. You fancy it?

I just found one of these at the back of a cupboard. (Garmin speed and cadence sensor). Brand new never used. It’s been superseded by a newer model (or 2). But I’m sure it still does the job. Would anyone like it? No charge just pay postage. Think of it as an early Christmas gift. It’d be really cool if someone has a kid who’s getting into cycling who’d like it, but failing that first come first served!

I've got my dad doing some light exercise on a dumb turbo as he has been having a lot of issues with plantar fascitis so I'd be grateful if it made his cycling experience a big more enjoyable (I think it's the first time he's cycled since the 1950s). No worries if someone's already claimed of course/if someone's kid wants it

just been playing with the hills around here to try and make 29000 ft - 108 times up the back side of neville holt , the local time trial hill
would give you 108 miles of climbing - of course you would have 108 miles down to get over it - sounds like long day - i moaned when i had to do it twice ^_^
