If anyone's still tempted to do a recon ride on this course, there's a Team RWB race on it tomorrow at 16:30. I'm kind of tempted to do it again but with a lightweight climbing bike and wheels this time to see if it makes much difference on the descents. My experience yesterday - when I rode the Tron - was I mostly just super-tucked in a small group on the descents and no one really got away or got dropped. So while I get that the Tron is in theory quicker on the flat/descent I'm now not sure it will actually be any real disadvantage being on a climbing bike on these types of descents....tricky one to decide 🤔

Having said that - probably won't really make any difference to my race either way so I should probably stop going on about it

I think Just go Tron mate. I think any difference is marginal and probably more dependent on how you were feeling on either day rather than any tangible difference. Plus the tron looks cool.

I think I’m up for that race on Saturday. Apart from anything it’s a bloody good work out. Hopefully you join too for added motivation!

I think it's worth doing - it's definitely a course that's worth knowing what you're in for because it's basically a long interval session with rests on the descents. Pacing will be important - it started and finished with teh same climb of Fox Hill (I assume the ZRL will be the same because the official route for Surrey Hills on Zwift Insider starts at the top of FOx Hill so it's a bit confusing), and I did the first one in 6:36 and the last on in 7:55. Those who can do a decent time on that last climb (unlike me!) may well overtake quite a few riders

If you want the official Strava segment that includes the lead-in and the first ascent of Fox Hill, this is the one you want to be looking at: https://www.strava.com/segments/20785354

I think in these races the field always gets split. Then there’s a point after you and everyone else has taken a few hills worth of a battering, you find yourself in a certain position. After the first 3 hills say. Maybe at that point you’re at a place where you can realistically lose or gain 10 positions or so. At that point you want to finish as high up in those positions as possible. Don’t let the bastards behind catch you, man you know that’s going to hurt if it happens. The slow death as it were.... Better to try and catch the bastards ahead!

I can't find the zwiftinsider course preview on the website yet - have you got a link to this?
I’m sure it was there yesterday, but I can’t find it now.

But here’s the Course Preview from his collaborator Sherpa Dave. 2 minutes in there’s a slide that says Tron beats Aero, but doesn’t mention climbing set up. He says this is Eric Schlange’s recommendation.
